A rich, dark and delicious porter with chocolate and coffee overtones accented by a subtle smokiness from just the right amount of peat smoked malt. Unlike a rauchbier, the "smoke" in Stone Smoked Porter is an ELEMENT of the character rather than being THE character. -- Greg Koch, Stone Brewing Co.

650ml brown bottle. Medium amber colour, clear. Beige foam, creamy bead. Good lacing. Aromas of chocolate and light smoke. Roasty dark malt and coffee flavour with late entering smoke underneath, nice bitter malts in the finish. Body is a bit thin. Tasty.

Black, darker than usual for a porter. Aroma is weak and flavor is like a porter with thin mouthfeel, maybe even dry, and a very strong smoky flavor. This should be had with BBQ. Some chocolate I didn’t care for but also cola and a bit of hops to balance but not very bitter. Very malty and a bit of caramel.

A 22 fl oz bomber with a bottled on date of 17th July 2015 and an enjoy by date of 14th November 2015. Poured into a Spiegelau stout glass. It poured a dark dark brown colour with a light amber hue and a nice two fingered tan head that dissipates slowly leaving stringy lacing. Aromas are smoky, roasted malts with some light chocolate and cream. Tastes are of roasted malts and bittersweet chocolate. There is also some light smoke which is ashy and hints of licorice and milk coffee. Creamy, smooth, medium bodied with light to medium carbonation. The smoke taste was a bit ashy for me, but otherwise this was a nice smoked porter.

Maybe my bottle was old, but this beer lacked any flavor, and it didn’t seem quite smoked to me. I will stick to Stones other brews.

UPDATED: MAY 27, 2003 Sort of roasty and full of chocolate/coffee malt. Pretty bitter. Not all that smoky, really, despite the name. My favorite Stone beer.

Not much of a porter. It's more like a very dark, well-hopped APA. Minimal head and no lacing. Very smokey aroma. The smoked aspect of the flavor is very evident, and is enjoyable. The body is pretty thin, especially for a porter. The hop bitterness in the finish is a bit unenjoyable, which surprised me considering stone seems to be great at creating the perfect hop finish.

UPDATED: SEP 26, 2012 RERATE: Aromas of sweet coffee and musty thick wood smoke. This is one thick porter. Rich, milky, like a cafe mocha. Medium, soothing hints of smoke flavor. The only thing wrong is too much smoke flavor, but only just too much.

UPDATED: AUG 11, 2003 Another fine creation from the folks at Stone. Mellow, smooth and chalked full of character. Subtle sweetness followed by hearty roasted malts and a dash of smokeyness. Head was persistant and the languid liquid dark and inviting. However the last several drinks began to taste like my grampa's old cough medicine. You know, like molasses, vicks rub and rusty nails. I'm sure this is due to the hoppy overtones not quite characteristic of this style. Regardless, the overall experience was positive.
