COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A rich, dark and delicious porter with chocolate and coffee overtones accented by a subtle smokiness from just the right amount of peat smoked malt. Unlike a rauchbier, the "smoke" in Stone Smoked Porter is an ELEMENT of the character rather than being THE character. -- Greg Koch, Stone Brewing Co.

Pours out a dark brown color with a light tan head, leaving pretty good retention and some lacing. Aroma is roasted with a little bit of chocolate, some caramel too. Some caramel in the taste, I definately get roastiness but the smokiness is very subdued. Medium bodied with fairly high carbonation. Pretty easy to drink beer, I’d probably have it again, but wouldn’t seek it out.

Bottle. Pours black with tan head. Aroma is coffee, smoke, chocolate. Flavor is mostly coffee and bitter chocolate, with smoke flavor present in moderation. Finishes clean, but leaves a bit of smokey aftertaste.

22oz bottle, dark brown color, with a creamy tan-colored, leaving laces, toasty, caramel, mild roasted malt, fruity, light smoky nose, with some hints of black coffee, dark chocolate, with a sweet molasses accent, and a peaty aroma folows through on a medium-bodied palate with a sweet toasted, roasted malt, fruity character, with a mild smoky flavor, with a hint of ashy beechwood, with some molasses, chocolatey, liquorice accents, leading towards a mlaty, fruity, roasty bitterness finish. I thought it was much smokier than that.

Bottle from a box ordered from Beers of Europe, consumed and shared with Loz 31-01-09 Pours dark brown with a tan head. There is a nice smokiness (as you would expect) that is immediately present on the nose and then in the mouth. There are some burnt malts, its a little fruity but surprisingly I find this just a touch thin, its nice but just a little bit lacking somewhere. A6 A4 F6 P3 OV13 3.2

Pours a rich, dark brown. Aroma is strong of smoke and dark malts. Notes of chocolate and caramel stand out as well. On the palate it is smooth and creamy. The taste is really stong in smoke. The finish is a bit dry leaving an after taste of sweet burnt malts and smoke. A little too much smoke for me, but still alright. I could not drink more than one in an evening.

A lot more mellow than I thought it was going to be. The smokiness was well balanced and understated. Smooth and easy to drink with a rich coffee / chocolate presence.

Pours a rich brown with a brown, creamy head. The first scent is of hops and a smokiness. Then slowly the coffee-ish notes seep in. The taste has some hop bitterness to go along with the cocoa and coffee combo but the smoke taste is not a strong as the Aecht Scherlenka brand. That was a little overwhelming whereas this was more tolerable. Good beer.

On tap at Lucky Baldwins, Pasadena. Looks like a Mild, with a fast disappearing head, and geological lacing. Very smooth and flat mouthfeel; smells stouty and oaty. Sweet, especially to begin, giving way to a musky smokiness and a mildly hopped finish, which is medium length and engaging. A tasty Porter, but I still prefer mine unsmoked.

The nose and and initial flavour of this beer almost ruined it. My first scent of this was of smoked fish left in the sun - not a good start. However, I persisted with it, despite the rather nasty scent. It improved as it came up to room temperature, increasing in stature, taste, and depth. The smoked flavour actually tapered off, a good thing in my book. It became quite chocolatety and had a nice bitterness. Pretty good, but I nearly poured it for the smell alone.

This one is a little too bitter for me and otherwise low on flavor. The body is also a little thin and fleeting. This beer just generally doesn’t stand out or impress me.
