Commercial Description:
A rich, dark and delicious porter with chocolate and coffee overtones accented by a subtle smokiness from just the right amount of peat smoked malt. Unlike a rauchbier, the "smoke" in Stone Smoked Porter is an ELEMENT of the character rather than being THE character. -- Greg Koch, Stone Brewing Co.

Pours black with a small frothy/creamy tan head. The initial taste is roasted coffee with caramel and chocolate undertones. There is a grapefruity bitterness that followes. The smoke is there but in the background. The smoke finish really complaments everything very well. There is a very distinct metallic taste to it.

Stone Smoked Porter 22oz bomber Recent brewing, ashed out 10/06 Medium pour in a pint glass. Poured dark mahogony with a huge light brown fully lasting frothy head with excellent lacing. Smelt of moderate mild chocolate, caramel, cola and molasses. Taste was upfront moderate roasted bitterness and coffee with some sweet chocolate and burnt sugar tones and light piney hoppiness followed by a blend of strong smokiness, moderate sweet chocolate and cola, light piney hops bitterness on a long finish that reminds me of rootbeer or cola. Mouthfeel was medium bodied, creamy and silky, lively carbonated, and moderately astringent. Overall, the beer looks great, smells good, and the taste is balanced to perfection and intensely complex on all its duration. Makes my neurons pop. Minor points off for slight lack of sweetness and weakness of aroma.

Just as one would expect, another great beer from Stone. Cocoa, coffee, and faint hops in the aroma, as well as a hint of toffee. Taste follows the aroma almost perfectly. A little more cocoa on the palate, nice coffee notes, some faint hoppy bitterness on the finish, and smoky goodness all the way through. Coffee and hops linger on the palate. This is probably the best porter I’ve had to date.

Jet black with frothy light tan head. Aroma of alcohol, smoke, and chocolate. Taste of smokey roasted malt and chocolate transitioning to a bitter slightly licorice taste and finishing with a perfumy alcoholic bitterness. Delicious.

Pours a deep, dark chestnut brown, almost black with a foamy beige head. Smoky malt aroma with hints of dark chocolate, coffee and toffee. Smooth, delicaate mouthful with a slighhtly bitter finish. Creamy chocolate roasted maltiness with hints of roasted cofee

Little smoked taste. Good taste of coffee notes and chocolate. Very smooth. Wonderful pour. Dark with a lite brown/white head. Wonderful overall porter for a non drinking porter guy!

Stone just continues to put out the good ones! Pours a dark chestnut brown with a beautiful head. Lots of coffee and smoke flavor in this porter. One of my fav. porters out there and decently priced.

Wow. I finally tried this stuff. Picked up a bomber from Jasper’s in Nashua. Pours like oil, black and completely opaque. Cream colored one finger head that recedes quickly. Vanilla, caramel, coffee, and maybe licorice (?) in the aroma. Full bodied mouthfeel, roasty malt character, chocolate, medium sweetness, smokiness, and just a bit of hop on the backend. This was a fantastic brew, and replaces Anchor as my favorite porter.
