4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
It clearly said that it would not be a bitter porter on the back of the bottle, but it was still surprising to see how a liquid with the opacity of a Guiness could go down SO smooth! The smoked part of this porter is perhaps a little bit light for the name, but it is in there, and the robust burned malty flavor is really desirable. As with all the Stoneís brews that I have tried, the head just does not dissipate, and the lace on the glass has to be scrubbed off! Very nice beer.

5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
A grown manís porter. Poured from a bomber interesting a tulip glass. The pour produces a dense 2 finger light tan head. The appearance is a rustic dark brown with a black core and garnet hue at the outer edges. The aroma is sweet caramel and bakers chocolate with smoke and small amount of wood and earth. The flavor is caramel up front with toasted and roasted grain. Then comes the smokey malt bomb. The finish is long and pleasantly dry.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Orange hue in the blackness. Dark chocolate nose. Lovely smooth body with a hint of smoke & full coffee flavour. A beautiful beverage.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draught. Nice porter with medium strength smokiness and bit of sulphur notes in aroma. Medium body and carbonation, lightly bitter in finish. Quite OK, but I expected more smoky beer.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Visual: Pours dark walnut brown with a smallish dissipating head, thin ringed microfine retention, micro streams all around.
Nose: brown sugar barley malts, caramel. (lvl-6)-intensity
Mid-palate: roasted barley malt with underlying coffee sourness, dark chocolate, (lvl-5-sweetness),
Finish: bitter roast, bitter hops,
Summary: The complexity is certainly there and the flavour transitions are seamlessly smooth. Some smoke, but rather reserved and refined - Great balance and finesse.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
22 oz bottle shared by ebone1988 for the fucking book because I guess I pissed someone off in a past life. Thanks a lot. The pour is a darker ruby/light brown with a lot of translucency and a thick ivory colored head that slowly falls down to a thick collar and film. The aroma is not good. There is a ton of metallic malt and a strong smokiness. A hint of chocolate and a light roast really bring up the back end of this shit show. The flavor is smokey garbage. There is a thin metallic malt and a ton is smoke. Itís got a light chocolate happening but itís just a mess. The mouth feel is thin and slick with a very light carbonation and a lingeringly smokey and metallic malt finish. This is smokey water and Iím quite unhappy.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle shared with koleminer20, for the book. Best by March16, 2016. Yikes. Aroma is metallic, smoky, roasted malt, some alcohol, pretty one-dimensional. Appearance is brown red, light light tan head, poured extremely thin. Taste is very smoky, bready, roasted malt, robust, metallic, but as advertised. Mouthfeel is medium body, light carbonation, smoky metallic aftertaste. Overall, not as bad as I expected.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Pours a rich dark brown with deep red notes from a bottle. Peaty coffee and chocolate aroma, flavor is similar with a slight hint of Moxie. Turns a little creosote-y on the finish. Okay beer.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
22 ounce bottle into pint glass, best before 8/28/2015. Pours crystal clear deep reddish brown color with a 2 finer dense and fluffy khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toasted brown bread, wood smoke, herbal, mint, pepper, light coffee/nuttiness, and roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and compelxity of dark/roast/smoked malt and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toasted brown bread, wood smoke, herbal, mint, pepper, light coffee/nuttiness, and roast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/spicy hop and light roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toasted brown bread, wood smoke, herbal, mint, pepper, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/smoked malt and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light dryness from bitterness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, creamy, and lightly sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5.9%. Overall this is an excellent smoked American porter style. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/smoked malt and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to drink. Itís unfortunate that this one is being retired this year, but at least the homebrew recipe will always be available. A very enjoyable offering.

From the "how have I not already rated this? file. As a rauchbier fan Iíd love to see even more smoke; thereís plenty of chocolate and coffee to keep it from just tasting like smoke.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Originally rated on 9/20/09. Stones smoked porter poured a black body, quickly disappearing tan head. Aroma was rather faint of chocolate, roasted malt, even a little fruit. Mouthfeel was a little thin but o.k. The smoked flavor is nice but goes away rapidly leaving the roasted malt aftertaste.
