A rich, dark and delicious porter with chocolate and coffee overtones accented by a subtle smokiness from just the right amount of peat smoked malt. Unlike a rauchbier, the "smoke" in Stone Smoked Porter is an ELEMENT of the character rather than being THE character. -- Greg Koch, Stone Brewing Co.

It clearly said that it would not be a bitter porter on the back of the bottle, but it was still surprising to see how a liquid with the opacity of a Guiness could go down SO smooth! The smoked part of this porter is perhaps a little bit light for the name, but it is in there, and the robust burned malty flavor is really desirable. As with all the Stoneís brews that I have tried, the head just does not dissipate, and the lace on the glass has to be scrubbed off! Very nice beer.

Originally rated on 9/20/09. Stones smoked porter poured a black body, quickly disappearing tan head. Aroma was rather faint of chocolate, roasted malt, even a little fruit. Mouthfeel was a little thin but o.k. The smoked flavor is nice but goes away rapidly leaving the roasted malt aftertaste.

Bottle at beerbistro. Very smoky aroma, freshly roasted coffee. Very dark brown with thin tan head that lingered. Roasty flavour, with nice coffee, leather. Bitter finish. Pretty good.

Deep dark amber, 2 fingers khaki foam. Nose is dark smoked malt. Bittersweet. Middle is charred malt, coffee grounds, molasses, and woody hops. Finish is bittersweet and long, with one last whiff of smoke. Nice.

Bottle, 2013 vintage. Pours black, nice tan head, pretty lacing. Aroma is smoke, but toned down compared to fresh based on what Iím hearing. Nice sweet chocolate, roasted malt. Wood, and a bit of leather too. Flavor is smokey, oak, decent bit of smoke. Itís non negligible. Itís nice. I think the age has brought out the chocolate. Hard to say for sure without a frame of reference. But very good.
