3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Somehow I have never had nor rated this brew from Stone. This is really quite surprising considering how many of the other Stone brews I have had. Deep dark ruby body topped by a rocky tan head. Glass lacing is very nice. Aroma is smoky with a good amount of roasted malt and chocolate malt. I also get a good wallop of citrus hops. The flavor is smoky but not nearly as much as the Alaskan Smoked Porter. There are lots of chocolate and nutty flavors. The hops are noticeable. The body is medium-full with an acidic bite towards the end. The finish is medium dry there is a little bit of lingering sweetness but not overly much. Overall a very nice brew.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
A chestnut colored beer with just an average foam head that leaves a fair amount of lacing down the side. Aromas of rich malts and sutle hints of smokiness.
A nice tasting beer with rich complex malts over sutle background smokiness. Hints of coffee and espresso are present with an underlying hop bitterness.
Smooth full body beer creamy, but a little watery.
A nice well made beer.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle with James K and Bert. Deep brown with a small tan head, although we were using James’s nice bone porcelain mugs. The aroma is chocolatey, subtle smoke. A little more smoke in the flavour, lightly sweet chocolate and roast malt, ashy, tart smoky finish. Medium body. A really good porter.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
A colablack beer with a big, dense and beige head. The nose has roastiness, dry smoke and coffee. After dominating elements there are also some dark bread, chocolate and herbs. Taste has smooht smoke, chocolate, some nice sweetness and bitterness, also coffee in the end. Medium bodied, mild carbonation, very smooth to drink. Good beer, the smoke is not too dominating, quite complex.

650ml bottle from Saveur Biere
Black colour with a small beige head. Aroma of coffee beans and some smoke. Flavour of coffee, roastiness, ashy notes. Mouth-feel is rich. I think that this porter doesn’t need more ABV, this is fine just like this.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Transfer from BA review on 5-23-12-
Poured from 22 oz bomber into pint glass
Appearance – Pours a deep brown nearly black color with a thick one finger tan head. The head had very nice retention leaving a medium amount of lacing.
Smell – Roasted malt is heaviest in the nose. These are cocoa and dark bread in nature with lighter hints of some smokiness, pine and a nice caramel/brown sugar sweetness.
Taste – A smooth roasted malt and cocoa flavor mixed with a light sweet caramel start the taste out. The caramel fades as some hoppy flavors come to the tongue. These are largely earthy in nature with lighter flavors of pine. At the end, the smoke that is suggested in the name, comes to fruition along with a resurgence (light resurgence) of some sweeter flavors.
Overall a very nice taste is left on the tongue in the end.
Mouthfeel – Creamier then the average brew with a slightly lighter level of carbonation. Very nice for the roasty-smoky flavors of the brew.
Overall – It’s a rather easy to drink, roasty and a good go to for a slightly dryer porter. Not too shabby.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Pours clear very dark brown with a big mostly lasting creamy beige head that leaves great lacing. Aroma of hay and grass. Light to medium bitter and lightly sweet in a light body. Light smoky flavor mixed with dark malt and bitter hops. A bit too much carbonation and a long bitter finish.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a medium brown with a medium offwhite head that leaves good lacing (in a plastic cup at the Mondial, anyway). Nose is of smoke, smoke and more smoke. For sure there is some roasted malt in there but I cannot find it. Taste is moderately bitter, offers smoke and some burnt malt flavors. Never ashy or stout-y, this is a real porter. Body is medium, carbonation moderately high and finish of smoky wood. Overall a really good smoked beer!
