Somehow I have never had nor rated this brew from Stone. This is really quite surprising considering how many of the other Stone brews I have had. Deep dark ruby body topped by a rocky tan head. Glass lacing is very nice. Aroma is smoky with a good amount of roasted malt and chocolate malt. I also get a good wallop of citrus hops. The flavor is smoky but not nearly as much as the Alaskan Smoked Porter. There are lots of chocolate and nutty flavors. The hops are noticeable. The body is medium-full with an acidic bite towards the end. The finish is medium dry there is a little bit of lingering sweetness but not overly much. Overall a very nice brew.

On tap at global Brew. Pours a midnight black, with a sizable off white head. Sweet roasted malt and vanilla aroma. Smokey burnt malt flavor, with vanilla and coffee notes. Nummy num!

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20

Very smooth. Dark pour, thick head. Reminds me of Guinness. Tasty with only a hint of smokey roasted taste. Good beer.

Not a big Porter fan...at least not before I tasted this brew. This beer is a great example of a big time hop head converting a bit to the dark side. The smell was decent, but the taste, mouthfeel, and finish were very good. Now I’m apt to try more Porters to stack up, and see how this one really MEASURES up! Keep on drinking...

Very good porter, not much smoke. Smooth almost milky when swallowed . Can’t stop sipping long enough to type. I will be getting this one again...soon!

Much rather have the vanilla bean addition!! Not a bad brew, but the smokiness overtakes the porter taste!

Pours a nice deep dark brown with a light milk chocolate colored head. I love the smokey flavor with the subtle hints of chocolate.

Smoke is mildly present, malt is balanced averagely with the chocolate. Coffee is also present, not overwhelming though.

smokey enough to satisfy my smoke craving. chocaletey with a hint of dark coffee, there’s a lightness in here somewhere, but I have a tough time placing it...perhaps deep caremely? maybe it’s in the malt? full bodied, also slightly nutty. I didn’t care for the "arrogant bastard" as much as the ratings on here would indicate, but I found this to be a very satisfying and complex brew.

UPDATED: FEB 26, 2014 Coffee, nuts, and a very faint hint of smoke. Not your average porter, almost tastes more like a brown ale to me. Still good though.
