12oz bottle @ Stone. you can’t do a Black IPA much better than this..... Pours a deep viscous brown, imperial Stout-esk. Big nose of piney hops, with some added herbal spice. Damn good stuff.

Appearance: Pours black with a decent head that subsides to a creamy tan film.
Aroma: Big hop nose. Very danky and tropical. Some mineral supplement like odor and a little bit of roast.
Taste: Dark chocolate, bitter roast, green hops. Long lingering bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Full bodied, modest creamy carbonation.
Overall: Very bitter and aromatic, and fits in with SSR and Stone 15th.

Cask at GBBF 2011. Pitch black color. Sweet thick roasty aroma with fresh birch leaves, oak, licorice, coffee and raisins. Bittersweet and roasty flavor with coffee, wood and dark sugar. Really nice condensed taste, a good sipper.

Cask gravity @ GBBF 2011. Pours a black color with a small tan head. Has a roasted malty hoppy piney aroma. Roasted malty hoppy bitter flavor with hints of chocolate and grapefruit. has a fruity malty hopy bitter finish.

Cask at GBBF, Day 1. Pours opaque black with a bubbly, beige head. Pine, booze, grapefruit nose. Sweet flavor, notes of burnt brown sugar, heavy roasted malts, pine. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Some warmth in the finish, huge resinous pine, tar, oil, mocha, earth, tires. Awesome.

Tasted from the tap at Stone 15th rare beer tasting.Basically black in color and opaque. Mocha like head. aromas were of coffee and charred malt. Similar flavor profile to the 15 anny beer but a bit more subdued in terms of hop bite and up front smoky malt. Did not detect any anise flavors as is present in the 15th. Pretty godd but prefer the bottled beer better for sure. Fun to compare.

Served at the Stone 15th Anniversary Celebration. Not sure if it was a bottle or tap. The appearance is a dark black hue with a huge head that fades away to more beer. The flavors and aromas are really similar to the 15th. A tone of piney hop resins, pineapple, no real malt backing. The mouth is full and definitely biting. I preferred the 15th over this similar beer but still a good brew.

Cask (gravity) @ GBBF 2011, Great British Beer Festival, Earls Court Exhibition Centre, London, England.
Clear dark black brown colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, caramel, chocolate, heavy hoppy, orange - citrus, pine, grapefruit. Flavor is heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, licorice, dark malt, hoppy. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.
