Taster at brew haha - nose is roasty. Sips adds smoke and that’s good enough for me. Dark roast bitterness. Nice!

Pours like a schwarz color wise. Nice head. Good aroma of rye and dark malts with a pilsner like hop undertone. Flavor refreshing, but fairly complex all the same. Good hybrid style

chocolate brown with some pale tan foam; aromas of some chocolate, caramel and pine; the flavor is pretty much the same, everything in balance; somewhat bready, it finishes with a touch of caramel sweetness. I thnk the rye was a bit muted, could use a little more roastyness, but that’s just a personal note.

Intriguing and good - this isn’t your Father’s Kolsch! Very very dark, few highlights, interesting filmy/spotty lacing and retention, dark tan. Nose of oak, milk chocolate, and a bit of spice. Palate is a wow, creamy, balanced, delicate. Graham crackers, tootsie roll, anise, roasted malt, smoke, a bit of sweetness. This is outstanding and I didn’t see it coming.

Dark brown pour and beige two finger head. Aroma of toasted malts, wheat, coffee grounds, rye bread and earth. Flavor is similar. Porter like. Strong rye and malt components. I enjoy the rugged beers like this. Pretty simple but very drinkable. A sessionable dark beer if there ever was one.

Bottle shared at RBESG 2014 Grand Tasting. Dark brown color with a red glare coming through, small beige head. Smell malts, rye I guess, a hint of roast, grainy. Taste malts, again some roast, some bitter, grainy. Meh, don’t really like it but it’s drinkable.
