3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bomber to shaker glass. Pours an opaque brown or black. Not too much nose, but some hints of hops. Has a nice crisp mouthfeel with roasted malts and enough hop bite for balance.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle from Sprout’s: Poured a dark tanned brown liquid and was topped nicely with a firm pillow of foam head. Aroma is clean and simple with a whiff of lightly roast malt that gives off scents of cocoa poweder or ground coffee. I would have no idea this was a kolsch style by smelling it alone. The drink is subtle with a delicate taste of sweetness with quality roast malt……
This is my first time tasting a hybrid black kolsch and I must say, it taste really good and extremely balanced.
I absolutely loved this beer but not so much the price of nearly $9 for a bottle after CRV and taxes.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Location: 22 oz bottle from Sparrow, 7/24/14
Aroma: The aroma is dry and roasted malts, some smoke notes, ash, and a bit of rye
Appearance: It pours a dark brown color with a small head and some drippy lace
Flavor: Tastes much the same, quite dry, roasted also burnt/ashy malt flavors, and a bit of spice
Palate: The body is medium, leaning light, the mouthfeel is dry and chalky, with a long, ashy finish
This is an interesting beer. I’m not sure what I expected from a Black Rye Kolsch, but I don’t think this was it. Tingly, dry, and ashy, I can’t say I’m come across this exact combo before. Unique.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at BevX360, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out wonderful crusty rye bread and some piney hops. Flavour is identical with lots of crusty rye bread, with nice hopping and a very dry palate. Very well-balanced - certainly not a kolsch by any means, but a great beer nonetheless.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from grapevine wine and spirits. Nose is roasted malts, toast, light chocolate. I couldn’t pick out any rye. Lightly grassy hops. Flavor was similar. Roasted notes all throughout, light cocoa. It tasted like a porter. It was nice but I couldn’t discern any rye and I never would have known it was a kolsch.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle to pint. Roast and chocolate delicately marry with spice. Very nice - but not much Kolsch attributes were bound. Clear deep brown with brown head. Taste is spiced rye with moderate roast. Medium thin mouthfeel works well to keep this a smooth beer.
