On tap 5 oz. taster at Escondido Ale House in Escondido, CA. Opaque, dense mahogany with a khaki head and very good lacing. Aroma of citrus, roasted malt, pine and chocolate. Taste of tangerine, grapefruit, pine, orange, roasted malt, chocolate and only subtle cherry as the brew warms. Medium body and medium carbonation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft at the wonderful Plan 9 Alehouse in downtown Escondido. Pours a cola black hue with one finger of beige head and some decent lacing. AROMA of roasted organic coffee, fresh-squeezed citrus, pine sap, mild chocolate, but no cherries. FLAVOR has sharp citrus and pine flavors at first then lots of very dark and bitter-roasty chocolate as we head toward the finish. But only a hint of the cherries in the mouth. Finishes with a nice combo of both hop-inspired and roasty bitterness. The higher ABV is completely concealed here. Really would have liked more of the advertised cherries, but overall this is fresh and lively and a really great combination of roasty and hoppy tones.

Draft pour. What a treat! Stone Sublimely Self-Righteous Black IPA with cherries! Cheers! A good hoppy aroma with a taste of cherry and smoke. This would be a great limited edition release in the bottle.

Tap @ Stone O’Side. Black pour with a tan head. Aggressive bitterness , pine, light chocolate roast, and complimentary cherry in the aroma. Taste bitter hops, chocolate roast, pine, and cherry ( although more subtle in the taste than the aroma). Even, clean mouthfeel. Nice variant.

Cask at Toronado SD for SDBW. Pours a low haze, deep brown to near black. Large tan foam with excellent sheets of lacing. Nose is sweet/tart cherries, chocolate cake, pine sap, savory spices. Spot on Black IPA. Taste is powerful spicy hops, pine sap, chocolate cake, pepper heat. Aggressive, high IBUs. More cocoa nib bitter with very little cherry able to come through. Impressive nonetheless.
