Quite a unique experience, like a hoppy espresso ale, funky brownie flavor, touch of brown sugar, low carbonation. Nice kick from the caffeine/hop combo @.@

On tap at Dark Lord Day 2013, served in a tasting glass. Pours black with a small tan head that fades to a thin remnant and leaves a small amount of lace. On the nose, there is HUGE espresso, along with roasted malts, earth, grass, subtle molasses and smoke. The flavour is moderately bitter with big coffee notes, toasted malts, smoke and molasses. Towards the end it becomes more bitter with resin and some pine. The finish is long and hoppy, with pine and resin. On the palate it is medium-full in body with a milky texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this is a decent variant of a great brew, but the espresso dominates a bit too much, upsetting the balance of the original. The hops also seem more bitter and less aromatic. It would be nice to try the two side-by-side. 2013-04-27

On tap at Stone Company Store in Oceanside. Deep mahogany color with black center and fine beige head. Aroma is smoke, peat wet earth and ground espresso coffee beans. Flavor transitions between sweet roasted malt, coffee bitterness and piney hops. Finish is weird with two different flavors lending to the bitterness, competing between espresso and hops. Almost makes it less bitter and more vegetable-like. Interesting, not really my thing.

Lubiere (9999) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 4, 2013
A deep dark reddish brown ale with a thin mocha head. In aroma, dark caramel with coffee beans, roasty and nice. In mouth, a nice roasted caramel with loads of bitter coffee, burned notes, chocolate, very nice.

Darker than the regular Sublime, this beer exudes more espresso than that from the dark malts. This pairs well with the citrus hops. Flavor is a tad more astringent but the black malts still come out strong and the hop bitterness balances well.

Miked1687 (608) - Buffalo, New York, USA - MAY 24, 2013
Draft at pizza plant. Dark black with a substantial light brown head. Smells hoppy with a big coffee presence. Taste is really nutty with tons of coffee beans finished up with hops. Really good.

swoopjones (5900) - Buffalo, New York, USA - MAY 23, 2013
Draft at blue monk, medium bodied black pour. Minor lacing. Coffee and slight peppery aroma. Flavor is coffee dominant with little showing of base. Big espresso roast upfront dominates rest of flavor profile. Bitterness from base beer seems lost. Still a great beer to sample

thome50 (1031) - Boringville aka Irvine, California, USA - MAY 16, 2013
Draft at Tustin Brewing. Pours a deep black with little to no tan head. Aroma is licorice, slight espresso and cocoa. Taste is more licorice that overwhelms and makes this barely drinkable. The espresso beans don’t really work here for me and the hops aren’t really here to help it out.

b3shine (5458) - Indiana, USA - APR 29, 2013
On draft at Dark Lord Day. Looks good; cola with light beige lacing. Smells solid; hoppy and malty with a nice espresso influence. Tastes like it smells, but the roast is too bitter. Kind of unbalanced. I like the base better.

UPDATED: APR 30, 2013 Draft. Dark brown. Big creamy beige head, lasting. Expresso, chocolate, hops. Smooth bitter finish. Great coffee character and definitely doesnt take a backseat. I really enjoy beers that use coffee well and this is a winner. Rich and flavorful.
