Commercial Description:
We re brewers whose substantial mettle and idiomatic approach to brewing allows us to consistently create works of art such as this justifiably self righteous ale. Its bitterness hits our sweet spot. Its blackness lightens our hearts. Its liquid dichotomy pulls it all together in this sublimely sacrosanct ale. Yes, we damn well know our stuff here at Stone, and it would be irresponsible of us not to acknowledge how remarkable this heavenly creation of ours is. Thus the name we are compelled to give it ... Stone Sublimely Self Righteous Ale ... serves as a reminder of just how good we are, in both liquid and verbal form. We re certainly not perfect. Too often, we allow our modesty to get the best of us as we re simply not inclined towards senseless braggadocio. When youre good, youre good. And when you do something great, the least you can do is acknowledge it. Others benefit from knowing. In this case, we find that we are compelled to point out how amazing this beer is that we rightly call the Stone Sublimely Self Righteous Ale. First brewed in 2007 as Stone 11th Anniversary Ale, this beer was an instant hit. With us. Other folks with great taste loved it too, but we were focused on how much we liked it, and we felt it was truly sublime. That euphoria didnt last long though, as it was soon replaced with the grim reality that when we sold out of it there wouldnt be any more. For Us. And that was simply unacceptable. So, we are now blessing ourselves, and you the enlightened, with this beer on a full time basis.. Thusly, you may now revel in your own self righteousness as you see fit with this glorious example of ours. You are genuinely welcome, as it is our pleasure.

Bottled (vintage September 2007, Vasa session). Deep ruby-brown color, creamy beige head, some lace. Aroma is mix of yeast, hops and bread - like sniffing dirty socks (Miksu said that it is oxided hops). Crisp carbonation. Sticky hops in powerful body. Finish has licorice and grapefruit juice. Good beer.

Bottled (as Anniversary XI, thanks stoutlover72). Deep amber clour, small brown head. Aroma is caramel, stinging fruity hops, some mild alcohol and some hints of breadyness. Flavour is grassy bitterness with some fruits, raisins and some caramel. Mild warming alcohol as well. Wellbalanced and pleasant.

Rich creamy head. Great lacing. Hops, peaches, peach cobbler, mint, subtle herbs (oregano, rosemary), pine needles and sap in the nose. Sweet cane sugar, and subtle peaches, pine needles and sap.. Loads of hops throughout into a long lasting hop finish. A typical Stone hop overload. Still a fantastic beer!

Pours dark brown, black in the glass, with almost no light making it through. Medium tan head, and good, lasting lacing. Fragrant with loads of floral hop aromas, pine, grass, and grapefruit. Some notes of coffee and molasses too. Medium, velvety, dry body. Strong bitter grapefruit and grass flavor, with very subtle malt characteristics, maybe coffee and caramel. A long, intense bitter aftertaste. Looks like an Imperial Stout, tastes like an Imperial IPA.

Bomber, 11th Anniversary Ale. Poured iced tea brown with a fine cap of beige head. The aroma picked up toffee, brown sugar, and baker’s chocolate paired with grapefruit and toasted pine hoppage.. just a little nutty impression on the back. The flavor had dry, dark chocolate and bitter coffee along with bitter floral and citrusy notes.. long, grainy finish that carried through more bitterness than I expected. Medium-bodied and bitter on the palate with moderate carbonation.. balance was decent, but the finish was too abrasive for my liking.

This is such an amazingly strange beer... Its dark like a stout, hoppy like an IPA with a malty sweet swallow like a brown. What is this stuff? Its great though! Wonderful rich mouthfeel, nose is fruity, with a dark and dry fruit taste in the mouth, decisively malty and dry finish. What really gets you is how hoppy it is. Its so dark, yet the hops are really up in your face, bold, citrus n’ pine that catches you off guard... well worth finding it!

22 oz bottle from Market of Choice. Pours as black as any non-stout I’ve ever had with a moderate off-white head. Aroma is heavy pine hops with a bit of a malt backbeat. Big pine hop initial flavoring with a nice smokiness and a solid malty finish that was unexpected. Very good beer, I’ll be picking up more
