Commercial Description:
We re brewers whose substantial mettle and idiomatic approach to brewing allows us to consistently create works of art such as this justifiably self righteous ale. Its bitterness hits our sweet spot. Its blackness lightens our hearts. Its liquid dichotomy pulls it all together in this sublimely sacrosanct ale. Yes, we damn well know our stuff here at Stone, and it would be irresponsible of us not to acknowledge how remarkable this heavenly creation of ours is. Thus the name we are compelled to give it ... Stone Sublimely Self Righteous Ale ... serves as a reminder of just how good we are, in both liquid and verbal form. We re certainly not perfect. Too often, we allow our modesty to get the best of us as we re simply not inclined towards senseless braggadocio. When youre good, youre good. And when you do something great, the least you can do is acknowledge it. Others benefit from knowing. In this case, we find that we are compelled to point out how amazing this beer is that we rightly call the Stone Sublimely Self Righteous Ale. First brewed in 2007 as Stone 11th Anniversary Ale, this beer was an instant hit. With us. Other folks with great taste loved it too, but we were focused on how much we liked it, and we felt it was truly sublime. That euphoria didnt last long though, as it was soon replaced with the grim reality that when we sold out of it there wouldnt be any more. For Us. And that was simply unacceptable. So, we are now blessing ourselves, and you the enlightened, with this beer on a full time basis.. Thusly, you may now revel in your own self righteousness as you see fit with this glorious example of ours. You are genuinely welcome, as it is our pleasure.

This supposedly retired beer arrived in Georgia a year late, but that was OK by me. The pour surprised me at first, because I had not read the full blurb on the back of the silk screened label, and was expecting an IPA. But the last line gave the clue to what this looked like, dark, pitch dark. When held up against the light, some ruby highlights showed up, but otherwise this was pretty much a black beer in terms of look. The head atop seemed small but stable, and was quite light in color, which was in stark contrast to the body. The smell was like a hop field, which pine and grapefruit smells being quite prominent. Underneath them, there was some chocolate lurking there. The taste was quite hoppy indeed, which made me wonder if this was not a year old bottle, but rather a fresh brewed batch for us on the East coast. The spicy, prickly, earthy hoppyness was just as intense as any IPA, however the black patent malt astringency, and some chocolate flavor were unusual, but went surprisingly well with that. The body was more in line with IPA than the looks suggested, and this was very drinkable for me, since I like hoppy beers. Quite a unique combination, but it works.

On draft at Redlight Redlight’s Stone Kickoff, Orlando! Thanks to our own Redlight for owning an amazing bar. One must wonder how this beer retained the hoppiness for so long. The hops were still strong, as were the malts. Great balance between the strong flavors, though. Tastes like citrus covered toasted marshmallows.

On Tap @ OTH Stone Release Party- It pours a dark brownish-amber color with an off-white head. Aroma is citrus, pine, grapefruit, and malt. Flavor is pine, citrus, and lemon-lime. Very smooth beer as it goes down, hops are noticeable, but it is not Pale, Ruination, or IPA.

Tap @ OTH, Stone FL kick off party. Pours dark amber, beige head. An amazing beer, regardless of its category. Had the good combination of the slight IPA touch with the notes of dark malt aromas. Taste keeps a nice roasted tone and the hops presence is subtle.

From the tap poured balck with a small head. Nice mix of malty hoppy, with a lasting finish.

This poured a dark brown to black color with a tan head. The aroma contains quite a bit of chocolate with some coffee, citrus and pine. Interesting so far. This is like frosted mini wheats in the fact on one side I got something totally different than the other. On one end I get a lot of roasted coffee flavors, chocolate, and licorice. On the other side Im getting quite a bit of bitterness with some lemons, grapefruit, and pine. This one is rather bitter from the roastiness as well as the citrus. Overall this was a very good beer. Thanks Springslicker!

Bottle. Pours a dark brown color with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, excessive hops, and grapefruit. Taste is the same. Has a very bitter dry finish.
