COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We’re brewers whose substantial mettle and idiomatic approach to brewing allows us to consistently create works of art such as this justifiably self righteous ale. Its bitterness hits our sweet spot. Its blackness lightens our hearts. Its liquid dichotomy pulls it all together in this sublimely sacrosanct ale. Yes, we damn well know our stuff here at Stone, and it would be irresponsible of us not to acknowledge how remarkable this heavenly creation of ours is. Thus the name we are compelled to give it ... Stone Sublimely Self Righteous Ale ... serves as a reminder of just how good we are, in both liquid and verbal form. We re certainly not perfect. Too often, we allow our modesty to get the best of us as we re simply not inclined towards senseless braggadocio. When youre good, youre good. And when you do something great, the least you can do is acknowledge it. Others benefit from knowing. In this case, we find that we are compelled to point out how amazing this beer is that we rightly call the Stone Sublimely Self Righteous Ale.

First brewed in 2007 as Stone 11th Anniversary Ale, this beer was an instant hit. With us. Other folks with great taste loved it too, but we were focused on how much we liked it, and we felt it was truly sublime. That euphoria didnt last long though, as it was soon replaced with the grim reality that when we sold out of it there wouldnt be any more. For Us. And that was simply unacceptable. So, we are now blessing ourselves, and you the enlightened, with this beer on a full time basis.. Thusly, you may now revel in your own self righteousness as you see fit with this glorious example of ours. You are genuinely welcome, as it is our pleasure.

Keg. Black with a large good lacing light brown head. Lots of cheesy, citrusy and flowery hop notes, darker malt in the back; caramel, dark chocolate, cocoa. Medium body, medium sweet and bitter with a long dry hoppy finish. It's good, but I wish the hops were less cheesy. Still a pleasant drink.

Flaska via privatimport. Kolsvart med ganska lätt skum men som klistrar sig fast på glaset. Rökig och humlig i doften. Torkad frukt och rökighet i smaken. Kraftfull beska och en låååång eftersmak. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Traded for a bottle from my brother in-law. Pours a cola like colour with a fluffy khaki head, clingy lace. Nose is very hoppy, as a typical ipa should be. Tastes a touch malty, but citrus and pine bitter, the maltiness comes through again in the finish. Really nice.

Appearance is black with hints of deep reddish-brown. Aroma is citrus hops, taste is roasted malts with coffee/cocoa and a bracing bitterness, and a lingering roasty finish. Top tier Black IPA.

Dark brown body, with a medium, creamy, tan head.
Great aroma with loads of fruits like citrus, peach, berries, tropical fruits, some pine and also many smooth, dark malts like melting chocolate, nuts, earth, some wood.
Taste follows this, also a great blend of the tasty, fruity hops and very smooth dark malts.
Mouthfeel is medium to full, surprisingly creamy, with a medium carbonation and it finishes bitter, roasty, with lots of citrus and dark malts.

Delicious! Wonderful blend of fruity hops and dark malts and very smooth to drink, with a well hidden ABV. One of the very best Black IPAs I’ve had so far!

35,5cl bottle at Tilt, Oslo. Pours black with a fairly small, light beige head. Dark roasty aroma with lots of hops too. Dark chocolate, pine, citrus and hints of coffee, dark fruits and herbs. Medium sweet with lots of flavours hoppy and malty in a nice and balanced mixture. Finishes fairly bitter with citrusy notes. Surprisingly smooth and well balanced. Medium bitter aftertaste. Very nice BIPA!

Poured from a 12 oz bottle with a Best By date of 12/25/2014. Aroma is mostly hoppy with a lot of grapefruit and pine resin, a classic West Coast hop character. Some cracker malt notes with faint roast and light chocolate. Light ester notes of stone fruit. Pours dark brown, almost black with a medium sized, fairly thick, dark tan head that exhibits pretty nice retention. Flavor is slightly sweet with some faint roast and light chocolate notes, both of which are more prevalent in the finish. Medium high bitterness with quite a bit of resinous and grapefruit hop character. Some light notes of stone fruit, orange and woods. Light alcohol spice in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall, an alright black IPA, but I still don’t see why Black IPAs are a thing. I would rather have a super fruity IPA than a slightly roasty resin bomb.

Great hoppy aroma that worked well with the coco malts. The taste was hoppy bitter and roasty bitter, but not over the top. Excellent job!

Quick question. What doesn't this brewery do right? This is an awesome creation in the black IPA category, which is my favorite. Great beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
