COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We re brewers whose substantial mettle and idiomatic approach to brewing allows us to consistently create works of art such as this justifiably self righteous ale. Its bitterness hits our sweet spot. Its blackness lightens our hearts. Its liquid dichotomy pulls it all together in this sublimely sacrosanct ale. Yes, we damn well know our stuff here at Stone, and it would be irresponsible of us not to acknowledge how remarkable this heavenly creation of ours is. Thus the name we are compelled to give it ... Stone Sublimely Self Righteous Ale ... serves as a reminder of just how good we are, in both liquid and verbal form. We re certainly not perfect. Too often, we allow our modesty to get the best of us as we re simply not inclined towards senseless braggadocio. When youre good, youre good. And when you do something great, the least you can do is acknowledge it. Others benefit from knowing. In this case, we find that we are compelled to point out how amazing this beer is that we rightly call the Stone Sublimely Self Righteous Ale. First brewed in 2007 as Stone 11th Anniversary Ale, this beer was an instant hit. With us. Other folks with great taste loved it too, but we were focused on how much we liked it, and we felt it was truly sublime. That euphoria didnt last long though, as it was soon replaced with the grim reality that when we sold out of it there wouldnt be any more. For Us. And that was simply unacceptable. So, we are now blessing ourselves, and you the enlightened, with this beer on a full time basis.. Thusly, you may now revel in your own self righteousness as you see fit with this glorious example of ours. You are genuinely welcome, as it is our pleasure.

22 oz bottle. It pour a dark black with a tiny quickly fading tan head. It has a wonder citrus and pine hop aroma with a hint of tangerine. This is by far the best Black IPA I’ve ever had. I has a wonderfully complex and intense citrus and pine hop flavors which are backed up amazingly well with the dark malt. This is an outstanding beer.

Bue à la pression. Une bière magnifique, corpulente et équilibrée. On y retrouve tout ce qu’on aime dans une Black IPA. Excellent !

Pours opaque dark mahogany with a thick tan head. Leaves good lacing in the glass. Aroma is hops, grapefruit. Taste is bitter hops, grapefruit, roasted malt, dark chocolate...Wow, what an interesting flavor. Excellent black IPA.

Poured into Tulip glass from bottle, pours almost completely black with slight ruby tints when held up to the light, more or less looks exactly like a porter. Huge fruity notes on the nose-- tangerine, nectarines, grape fruit-- very much like a DIPA. Taste is IPA style bitter fruitiness along with bitter dark chocolate, fresh cocoa and coffee grounds coming into the mix as the beer warms up. Tasty and unique beer.

Sampled at the Great New Zealand Beer Festival. Appears dark mahogany in colour with a pungent aroma of fragrant and herbaceous hops. Resinous and grassy impressions from the nose. To taste, there is an odd balance of green hops, molasses and dark malts. There was a very generous lengthy finish and an enduring satisfaction.

Nice thin black pour with a brown head. Great hop aroma. Malty backdrop with a nice mix of hops. Not overpowering or over bitter. Very smooth drinker. This guy went down smooth and was gone before I knew it.

$6 bottle from Three Blind Mice in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. Enjoy By date was a week ago at most, but that’s not enough to make me whine to the waitress or owner. Appearance: Opaque black, it seems. Nice tan sort of head on top with fantastic sip-by-sip lacing for the most part. Smell: A bit of char, but definitely piled with hops... definitely a black IPA on the nose. No fruitiness that I can tell, just earthy, piney hops and some roast. Taste/feel: The piney/earthy hops are definitely there, but some sort of citrus is in the flavor that I didn’t get in the aroma. The hops dominate at the forefront, with a roast/char aftertaste. A nice body on this one as well, with a carbonation that’s maybe medium-high. A pretty great beer, and one of the best black IPAs I’ve had, for sure.

Pours black with a tan head like frothy chocolate milk out of a bomber. Pine aroma off the bat. Resiny pine in the first sip with good additions from roasted malts filling in as well. Great example of the style. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I’ve gone my whole life raring beers attributes out of 10. I rarely give things 10s because there has never been a yardstick for me of what the best beer is. As of now for ipas this is my new yardstick. This beer is the perfect balance between the Carmel maltiness of a stout, and the heavy handed hoppiness of a stone ipa. This is a phenomenal beer.
