COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We’re brewers whose substantial mettle and idiomatic approach to brewing allows us to consistently create works of art such as this justifiably self righteous ale. Its bitterness hits our sweet spot. Its blackness lightens our hearts. Its liquid dichotomy pulls it all together in this sublimely sacrosanct ale. Yes, we damn well know our stuff here at Stone, and it would be irresponsible of us not to acknowledge how remarkable this heavenly creation of ours is. Thus the name we are compelled to give it ... Stone Sublimely Self Righteous Ale ... serves as a reminder of just how good we are, in both liquid and verbal form. We re certainly not perfect. Too often, we allow our modesty to get the best of us as we re simply not inclined towards senseless braggadocio. When youre good, youre good. And when you do something great, the least you can do is acknowledge it. Others benefit from knowing. In this case, we find that we are compelled to point out how amazing this beer is that we rightly call the Stone Sublimely Self Righteous Ale.

First brewed in 2007 as Stone 11th Anniversary Ale, this beer was an instant hit. With us. Other folks with great taste loved it too, but we were focused on how much we liked it, and we felt it was truly sublime. That euphoria didnt last long though, as it was soon replaced with the grim reality that when we sold out of it there wouldnt be any more. For Us. And that was simply unacceptable. So, we are now blessing ourselves, and you the enlightened, with this beer on a full time basis.. Thusly, you may now revel in your own self righteousness as you see fit with this glorious example of ours. You are genuinely welcome, as it is our pleasure.

Bottle: Pours with a tight head over a dark brown body; cookie dough, caramel, grapefruit and pine hop aroma; roasty and malty, initially, chocolate and grapefruit notes; dense body and very hoppy, bitter finish to balance; very tasty. This would be even better aged out a little.

22oz bottle. Pours a very deep brown color with a one finger of tan head with fantastic retention, that slowly fades to leave lots of foamy lace on the glass. The aroma is big and robust with nice hoppy and roasted smells. There are lots of roasted malts as well as a bit of coffee. Along with the darker aromas is a great dose of hops, with a big grapefruit hop aroma accompanied by some nice pine and earthy hops as well. Rounding out the aroma are hints of sweet molasses. The aroma fools the palate as the first thing you taste is a beautifully heavy malt presence. The sweetness quickly transitions to a nice hop bite followed by a lingering hop bitterness. This is a very nicely balanced Black IPA that showcases the hops but doesn’t overpower the malt. Full bodied with medium-low carbonation.

What a good beer. Pour is dark chocolate in color white a full off white to tan head. Aroma is a good combination citrus, herbal and dry hop. Earthy flavors rule your taste buds with a big citrus splash that finishes with a subtle sweetness that makes for great balance.

Pint bottle from whole foods naples. Pours black with reddish hue. Lovely foam two finger tan head. Aroma spruce, pine up front. Behind is leather, floral, slight smoke. Smells great. Flavour is smooth chocolate hazelnut, with a resinous hop floral hit. Big lasting bitterness leads to a dry coffee finish. The mouthfeel is velvet cream. It is very moreish. Carbonation is low but there. Great balance between the burnt malts and the IPA. A great beer.

Medium-strong, quite sweet and alcohol flavored aroma with raisin, malts and chocolate. Black color with light-medium, long staying, beige head. Strong though smooth taste with some sweetness. Raisin, syrup, malts, chocolate and coffee in semi-roasted style. Some alcohol flavor suits for this beer. Also a bit of hops but in very balanced manner concerned with other flavors. Medium-wide taste spectrum and long, bit fruity, malty and hoppy aftertaste. Medium mouth feel and medium-low carbonation. A perfect beer.

Now this is what all Black IPA’s should be!!! Makes sense coming from a natural IPA maker in Stone brewing...pours a clear black almost opaque color with a big frothy brown head that leaves lot of lace on the glass. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, citrus, grapefruits & pine on the nose all in a big complex beautiful balance. Taste is roasted malts mixed with citrus hops mixed with cocoa mixed with pine mixed with coffee mixed with grapefruit...well you get the idea complex and balanced with a semi dry to dry finish which makes this the best Stone beer I’ve had to date. Absolutely love this beer!
