COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We re brewers whose substantial mettle and idiomatic approach to brewing allows us to consistently create works of art such as this justifiably self righteous ale. Its bitterness hits our sweet spot. Its blackness lightens our hearts. Its liquid dichotomy pulls it all together in this sublimely sacrosanct ale. Yes, we damn well know our stuff here at Stone, and it would be irresponsible of us not to acknowledge how remarkable this heavenly creation of ours is. Thus the name we are compelled to give it ... Stone Sublimely Self Righteous Ale ... serves as a reminder of just how good we are, in both liquid and verbal form. We re certainly not perfect. Too often, we allow our modesty to get the best of us as we re simply not inclined towards senseless braggadocio. When youre good, youre good. And when you do something great, the least you can do is acknowledge it. Others benefit from knowing. In this case, we find that we are compelled to point out how amazing this beer is that we rightly call the Stone Sublimely Self Righteous Ale. First brewed in 2007 as Stone 11th Anniversary Ale, this beer was an instant hit. With us. Other folks with great taste loved it too, but we were focused on how much we liked it, and we felt it was truly sublime. That euphoria didnt last long though, as it was soon replaced with the grim reality that when we sold out of it there wouldnt be any more. For Us. And that was simply unacceptable. So, we are now blessing ourselves, and you the enlightened, with this beer on a full time basis.. Thusly, you may now revel in your own self righteousness as you see fit with this glorious example of ours. You are genuinely welcome, as it is our pleasure.

2 Liter Growler on tap from Stone Brewery. Dark Brown with a tan head. Aroma of hops and Dark/Smoked Malts. At first taste the bitterness from the hops make you cringe but if you have ever tried other Stone beers they do not hold back when it comes to flavor. After you get over the initial burst of hops you get a good taste of the malts. I feel as of they mixed a smoked porter with a ton of hops and came up with this beautiful mixture. Thank you Stone for making my Weekend.

Bottle to plastic taster at the RBAG14 warmup After a slew of Stone trivia questions, one about this beer, it’s time to rate this. Hops, citrus, lots of pine a little spruce. Reddish brown with a long lasting white head. Hoppy, citrus, and lots of caramel.

Draft @ Yard House. Pleasant, floral aroma. Dark color with ruby highlights. Flavor is floral with a nice citrus taste. Good body. Mostly an IPA, but you can taste a little dark malt in there too. Very nice!

Pours a deep black with no head and seemed like little to no carb. Wasn’t a bad thing though. This was a little like a porter to me. Aroma was nice and I caught some sweet malts with caramel and vanilla along with some bitter citrus hops. Taste was very good and all the flavors came together nicely. Nicely bitter and I didn’t notice any alcohol in it. Solid offering from a great brewery.

Nicely done black IPA, lots of roast grain and hop bitterness without being overwhelming. Black with abundant beige head, smell mostly of roast grains, hops come in at the taste. Nice mellow bitter finish, some lingers, making you want more.,

Poured from a bomber into a snifter glass darkest black brown with a tan head. Aroma is roasted sweetness. Slight coffee. Flavor cocoa sweet with a grassy hops to follow. The burnt roasted bitterness. Balanced beautifully. Stone did one better than many---if you are a serious black IPA fan.

Tap at Union Rooftop. Deep red brown with a creamy tan head. Strong roasted malts, light chocolate, and viney/resiny hops. Taste starts with a mocha sweetness quickly interrupted with the resiny bitterness. Foamy feel.

I am not a huge fan of Black IPA's or CDA's whatever you like to call them, but this one is an exception. Roasty with hints of chocolate. The bitterness from the hops balances with the bitterness of the malt. Very well balanced beer.

Malty hop aroma. Taste is dark roasty malt, coffee and caramel. Nice hop flavor across the top. Moderate bitter finish. Excellent beer.

Bottle pour. Dark black color with brownish medium head, great lacing. Roasted malts and strong hoppy aroma. Light creamy texture. Taste is much like the aroma, and has a light but long lasting bitter aftertaste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
