This has got to be one of my all time favorites. Great color and aroma from the chocolate malts, bourbon, and oak. Flavor is perfectly balanced and smooth. Chocolate and bourbon make an excellent pairing and the finish is delicate and refreshing.

A very sweet and delicious porter. Drink with caution. High sugar level will come with a complimentary hangover.

On tap at the barrel-aged tasting at World Of Beer-Cherry Creek in Denver, CO during GABF week. Dark brown, almost black, pour with a thin khaki head. Aroma of vanilla, coconut, chocolate, and oak. Beautifully balanced flavor of German chocolate cake, coffee, oak, and faint floral hops. A perfect blended beer and very, very well done.

Dark brown pour. Several samples at GABF. Loads of aromas here!! Smile, tar, bourbon, vanilla, cocoa, roast. Smoke and bourbon never tasted so good together. Awesome.

Pours a deep blackish-brown, not quite as heavy as the KBS but still substantial. Aromas of bourbon and vanilla with some nice smokey accents. As soon as it hits the mouth, you know you’ve made a good choice. The roasted malts and smoke pair perfectly with the bourbon. Finishes smoothly with hints of caramel, vanilla and chocolate. Had it as the first pour off a keg at Hangar 9.

Sample at Fobab - this was one of the better beers at an all star festival. Dark dark pour. Big flavors in this one. Oak and smoke dominate this one, with a nice subtile bourbon balancing it all out. This seems to me like a stronger version of smoked porter and then bourbon aged. This works incredible well. The bourbon mixes great with the smoke. Both are strong but neither overpower. I could sip on this all day.

Tap @ Holiday Ale Fest 2012... Poured pitch black with a thick, frothy, khaki head. This took the fest. My first beer and I started high with this one. Had to end with a full pour it was so good. Aroma had loads of barrel, with some more barrel, and barrel again. Moderate mouthfeel on this one. Mild smoke, as it warmed this was more apparent. Some warming alcohol in there with roast, vanilla, and thick maltiness. A nice sipper with notes of oak and more wood in the finish. Quite dessert-like. Yes please!

On tap at HAF, maybe the last beer I could drink on a fresh palate A: A moderately fluffy creme colored head with an almost perfectly black body. N: Intense bourbon on the nose. Caramel, honey, and vanilla. Some chocolate and smoke, but it’s mostly barrel and oak. T: Smoke, peat, and bourbon. Vanilla, and honey. A pleasant espresso through the middle to balance the sweetness. Dark chocolate. M: On the lighter side of stomach-sinking. Noticeable alcohol. Could use some improvement here. O: Suitable for cave aging indeed. I believe the program said this was a 2011 vintage, and it was probably neck and neck with the other best beers I had at the festival. (Though aged Abyss is hard to beat.) I would love bottles of this.

Almost black in color with a khaki head. Wonderful aroma of coffee, vanilla, chocolate, roasted malt, and caramel. Very mild smoke, some oak, and good bourbon notes. The flavor has a very nice sweetness of milk chocolate, caramel, and vanilla. Bourbon, oak, and nice roasted malt flavors with subtle smoke. Excellent all around.

Hazy dark nutty brown, nearly black, with a thin foamy light tan head. The nose is immediately a bit chocolaty but transitions to a slightly spicy tortilla dough tone and some bourbon. The flavor is like a winter spice ale, totally out of nowhere for where the aroma was. Nice dark sweet malts with a bit of Christmas spices like clove and cinnamon, a bit of raisin, and doughiness with some bourbon twinged caramel on the back end. Very balanced, oddly enough, with a small touch of bitterness throughout, without much hoppy flavor, leaving way for dark Christmas like maltiness and a smooth undercurrent of light bourbon. And is that a light touch of coffee in the finish?! Very, very good.
