4.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Smells of alcohol, raisins, and sherry. The most complicated palate of any beer I’ve ever tried. Tastes of raisins, wood, alcohol, and leather. Fades to bitterness with aftertaste of leather and dried fruit. This is a beer for those who like Scotch. Really impressive stuff if you’re up for a challenge to your palette.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap. Pours with a crystal clear amber-mahogany hued body with a lasting tan head. Aromas are estery, dark fruits, brown sugar, smoke, raisins, malty, deep. Flavors are smokey, bitter, low roast, beef jerky, peat, musty, earthy, dark fruits, minerals, wood. A touch medicinal with the smoke influence. Very earthy. Higher than expected carbonation that enhances certain harsh elements. Warming, medium to full bodied.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 9/20
Tap at Falling Rock during GABF. Dark dark brown with a laceful, thin foamy khaki head. Roasty nose with earthy hop resin, and smokey dark maltiness that almost has this red-wine note to it. Flavor is roughly the same, smokey and roasty, with a bit of sweetness from earthy chocolate malts, a touch of rauch malts, mild hop flavors with balancing hop bitterness, and a very slight red wine barrel essence. I think. Didn’t really do it for me.

Partial rings of lacing on the glass. The aroma is smoky with some sweet malt in the background. Medium-bodied with a smoky character and notes of charred malt and hops. The finish is oaky with a bit of coffee left behind. Good overall.
