From a bottle. Pours a thick black, thin tan head, rich coffee aroma, roasted flavours with dark chocolate bitterness. Very smooth and well worth it.

Roasted nuts and coffee come through on aroma. Also toast, burnt malts come through on initial taste. Smooth in mouthfeel. Pleasant finish. A well put together beer.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Rich choc aroma with sweet fudgey notes. Mostly a porter but not any "steinbier" character. Good porter though,

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
(Bottle) Very dark brown with no head; looks rather like cola. Faint but pleasant aroma of toffee and hot cross buns. Medium body with soft fine carbonation. Unusual and very pleasant taste. Refreshing start which devils a caramel sweetness, followed by dark toffee and dark roast malt with hints of burnt toast and finishing with a bitterness that is more bitter chocolate or coffee than hops. Very drinkable.

2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Pretty disappointing to be honest. Nothing to write home about on the nose. The taste isn’t bad but pretty average, some nice malt flavours, however it is dampened by a strange almost metallic taste. Overall an average beer

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from Mane Liquor. 2014 edition. Has been sitting in Kate’s fridge for about 6 months or so. Nothing crazy happening here but damn this tastes solid. Super dry and chocolatey, nothing like one would expect an amber ale to be. Reminds me a lot of Eagle Bay Cacao Stout. A little easier to drink but just as bitter and cocoa driven. Tasty

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
500ml bottle, 2012 edition. Pours a nearly opaque deep chestnut with a smallish light beige head, which lasts fairly well, leaving good lace. Roasty, grainy malt and some caramel make up the aroma, with some faint leafy hops in there as well. Light leafy and slightly sappy hops notes introduce it, leading into a smooth, malty mid-palate, with roasty and nutty notes predominant. A burnt caramel character develops towards the finish, which is a little spicy and quite dry. A nice easy-drinker, with a little bit of character to keep things interesting.

Bottle, pours opaque deep brown black with big tan head. Aromas of toast, anise, caramel, bread and toasted nutty malts. Medium body, seemingly sour-burnt toasty anise character, balancing sweet caramel and chocolate malts. Finishes lightly sour burnt and sweet balanced. Very interesting.
