This is a very full-bodied beer, you could nearly chew on it, such is the mouth-feel. The rye strenghtens the already strong wheat-yeasty taste considerably. As expected, it comes with the pirate-themed artwork of all Störtebeker brews.

0,5 l bottle shared
Appearance: Dark gold to light brown.
Aroma: bread, banana, vanilla, wheat
Taste: Starts a bit sweet with bread, Banana, sour wheat, rye and vanilla yoghurt, Rye. Aftertaste is suprisingly barley wine like with a lot of candy sweetness, but because of the sour finish it comes off nicely. Very balanced Sweet & Sour.
Medium body, below average carbonation

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Nice reddish brown chestnut color. Very cloudy, which fits the weizen aspect. The beer pours a lot of fast collapsing foam. There remains a delicious layer of soft white foam. The smell is delicious. Sweet fruits, some chocolate, very special. The taste is special as well. It is typical weizen. But it is more sophisticated. It has some caramel and chocolate features. It is really good.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Roggen-Weizen, eh? Never had one of those before. Bottle. Orangish brown with an off-white head. Aroma of chocolate, toast, banana, vanilla, cloves. Sweetish with bread, chocolate, spices that suggest but don’t shout rye. Bananas are there but subdued, which suits me well. Quaffable with some intrigue.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from The German Club 100415. This is not a style that you see very often here in Australia and I’m not sure that any Australian brewers have brewed this style. Super thick and deep head and the beer looks like honey in the glass. Sweet syrupy aroma and even the foam tastes good. Thin bodied with a lot of flavour and and unusual but long finish.

Schön bernsteinfarbenes Bier mit einer mittelgroßen Schaumkrone. Brot und Hefenoten im Aroma verspürbar, Anklänge von Banane. Relativ bitterer, leicht trockener, sanfter Geschmack.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle @ home. Copper colored, almost clear with a tan head, no lacing. Smells of banana, wheat, bread with rye hints, ham and some metal. Dry and somewhat tart taste. With a mellow palate initially, hijacked by metal notes in mid taste. Flavors of banana, wheat, bread, charcuteries, toffee, almond and metal. Overall short lived taste but with a lingering banana peel + toffee sensation.
