3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Half-litre bottle: best before 7th June 2014. Poured (twice) into a leffe badged stemmed goblet at home on 8th Dec 2012.
Really deep, dark brown/ruby: almost black, on top a tan head that faded a bit too swiftly for my liking.
Loads of chocolate in the nose and taste, Camp Coffee too (remember that stuff?): also reminded me of a rich, creamy Dandilion and Burdock sort of flavour (who remembers that stuff as well?). Now add a liquorice stick to the mix and some hops to give a slightly bitter undertone and you’re half way to tasting and smelling what I did during my review (on my own). I thought the alcohol well hidden with the flavours masking the 7.5% ABV nicely: all in all, a very pleasant brew.
One of the best German beers I’ve had for some time.

Bottle at omhper, thanks.
Hight coars light brown foam. Much roasted dark malts in the aroma. Sweet taste and small caramell sweetness in the taste.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Pretty dark chestnut colour with golden lace. Sweet mik chocolate aroma. I am basically getting a praline base flavor: Chocolate, eggnog/creme and coffee, a bit licorice root, light hop bitterness on the back of the palate. Medium body with a creamy mouthfeel. Cappucino retronasal. A bit strange, but once you accept it as a dessert not too bad really.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours black , almost impenetrable against light. With frothy dark beige head. First aroma includes caramel, roasted malts, cacao, coffee. Palate is creamy thick and oily, with roasted malts and some sweetness in the focus. Carbonation is average with full-bodied texture. After taste gives in for little bitterness and drieness. Some hints of leather and warming alcohol in the finish.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Dark brown to black coloured beer with a weak mocha coloured head. Roasted malt aroma, coffee and burnt sugar, plus a raisin-like dried fruit aroma. Light mouthfeel. Bittersweet roasted malt flavour, elements of coffee, and high cocoa content chocolate, bitter sweet with a hint of vegetal flavours. Then a dark fruit flavour that lasts to the finish.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle looks good. Beer in the glass deep black, nice head. Starts strong but not alcoholic, fine malty-roasty, dry background. Also some earthy notes. Well balanced, warming finish. Great beer!
