Sampled at the January ’10 Metro Detroit tasting. This one, thanks to sarcastro. Poured black with a nice dark brown head. Aroma had notes of booze, sweet but dark grains and a bit of chocolate. Flavor was nicely balanced as the oat, chocolate and booze worked well together.

UPDATED: JAN 10, 2010 Courtesy of Sarcastro

Bottle: The aroma consists of dark chocolate, caramel, oxidation, faint fruit, and roastiness. It pours a dark brown with some orange highlights around the edges of the glass and a small beige head that quickly fades to a thin film. The flavor starts with dark chocolate and faint vanilla. The finish has notes of oxidation, roast, coffee, and wood. I get zero whiskey character in flavor or aroma. Medium bodied with minimal carbonation.

Bottle shared by footbalm at the tasting extravaganza. Unknown vintage. Pours a dark color with a medium beige head. The aroma is light banana, bourbon, sweet malts. A subdued nutty, light roasted flavor, light wood, caramel. Smooth and very nice.

Bottle shared by Mr.Bendo at Moosetoberfest, thanks Todd. Poured a good looking clear deep dark brown/black with a small foamy beige head. Aroma is great with lots of whiskey and choclate along with some roasty malts and vanilla. The body on this one was rather thin and creamy with soft carbonation, too thin for my taste for this style. The flavor wasn’t as good as the aroma with hot whiskey, chocolate, raosty malts and burnt toast. The whiskey was a little to hot still in the aroma and the body was far to thin or else this one could have been a 4+ beer easily.

hopdog on the hookup! Dark brown pour. tan head. Lots of bourbon, toasted malt and some chocolate on the nose. Flavor has less bourbon than i expected...but some nice raosty notes and good chocolate. Very well done and understated which is rare with the bourbon imp stouts these days.
