Pours burnt sienna with off-khaki head. Nose is caramel malt, heavy piney hops, mild pumpernickle bread. Tastes rich, very hoppy, with a solid caramel malt bill and some late pumpernickel and cacao notes. Nice complexity and balance. egajdzis (3602), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 29, 2008 Poured a brown red color with a small, light tan head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of floral hops, pine, citrus fruits, toffee, and some toasted malts as well. Taste of pine, grapefruit, citrus, toffee, dark nuttiness, some caramel malts, and a dry, bitter finish. A light toasted malt character and then its just dominated by pine and citrus to the finish and lingering. TomDecapolis (3130), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 29, 2008 Growler filled at Capones. Pours a mostly translucent deep copper/brownish with orange notes and a medium creamy/bubbly off white head that laced. Aroma of toffee, nuts, pine, orange, some grapefruit and cereal grains. Flavor of a nice toasted malt/toffee/nuts maltiness, grapefruit, pine, other mixed citrus, fresh and hoppy. Not as dark I was expecting, but a very solid beer. Nice balance of malt and hops, yet still staying within the IPA guidelines. michael-pollack (2603), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 6, 2008 Draught at Stoudt’s: Aroma of hops, flowers, pine, and resin. Poured a medium brown/very dark amber/dark orange in color with a small, off-white head. Very good lacing. Flavor is medium to heavy bitter. Tastes of hops, pine, resin, and rye. Medium body. Sticky texture. Average carbonation. Bitter, dry, hop finish. Very good beer. FROTHINGSLOSH (1961), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 12, 2008 Sampled on draft at D’s in Monroeville PA this beer poured a dark red-chestnut color with a large khaki head that lingers. The aroma was strong with fruity and floral hops - though a bit harsh. The flavor was bitter and full of strong floral hops and strong harsh fruity hops. The finish was long and bitter. pineypower (1076), Pine Barrens, New Jersey, USA Jun 29, 2008 Tap at Capone’s. Pours out a very interesting very dark copper almost a reddish hued brown with a moderate creamy off white head. Very nice aroma of some citrus and pine hops, but also some toasted bready notes. Taste is very well balanced, citrus hops come through throughout with some caramel, toasted malt and some grain. Very well done and wonderfully balanced.
