mhelgason (495), Charlotte, North Carolina, USA Jun 29, 2009 12 oz. bottle. on the small side white fizzy head (quickly and almost fully dissapating) into clear copper body. aromas of moderate hops and some malts (actually not as biting as I was anticipating) although the alochol is present (not overpresent). flavor-initially light-mod bittersweet. finishes- light to moderate bitter. Not the best Double IPA but also not the worst. keepersj12 (643), Sicklerville, New Jersey, USA Jun 28, 2009 Nice dark amber with a large foamy head. Aroma is hops. Flavor starts sweet and ends bitter. Very dry finish. RHeastings (218), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 23, 2009 Enjoyed from a 12oz bottle in a pub glass. The beer pours a medium to slightly dark yellow with a small and short-lived head. The nose brings a strong scent of hops, perhaps some Simcoe and Columbus, along with a dose of malt at the end. The palate begins hoppy, bringing a smooth bitterness that is pretty easy on the senses. Malt comes in toward the middle to end. The finish is relatively sweet, but certainly not cloying. Overall, not the best IIPA, but certainly a winner, and one that belies its abv. PapaSkeetSkeet (36), , Massachusetts, USA Jun 22, 2009 Pours a hazy gold with thin white head, little lacing. Aroma is pretty faint. Smells of a bit of alcohol/hops and nice warm strawberry smoothie. Taste is a citrusy syrupy hops leaning towards a refreshing spruce as opposed to a bitter sap. And one finds a nice prominent apricot in the after taste. Interesting. I feel like the maker of this beer deserves more credit than my rating merits. mesperon (83), Jersey City, New Jersey, USA Jun 21, 2009 Clear amber, decent head and lace. Aroma of mellow grapefruit, ripe berry, woody hops. medium mouthfeel, subtle carbonation. Flavor is very balanced with herby, woody hops, mellow citrus, lightly roasted malt, caramel. Very subtle for a double ipa, but delicious and very well balanced. valpoaj (344), Valparaiso, Indiana, USA Jun 20, 2009 From a bottle...pours a deep orange with a solid white head. Aroma is robustly hopped...very fruity (orange, grapefruit abound) and also has some piney/resin notes as well...enjoyable! Flavor is pretty good as well...heavy on the citrus hops, but a good malt backbone on here as well. Bitterness doesn’t kick in until real late, and keeps you coming back for more. Some metallic note did bother me at times, but not enough to keep this from being a nice drink. Palate was smooth, but lacked some of the oily characteristics I enjoy in a DIPA. Was a bit surprised to see this one was clocking a 10.6%...the palate did not suggest there was this level of alcohol. milljam (500), Norman, Oklahoma, USA Jun 12, 2009 Thanks to hopscotch! Wow...first of all, would not have guessed that this was %10.6 ABV. I didn’t look until after finishing it and was quite suprised. Drinks like a regular IPA in terms of alcohol. Aroma is quite hoppy and intense, with notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pine and a subtle herbal note. Flavor is mainly citrus notes, followed by moderate bitterness. The bitterness fades after awhile and you’re left with a lingering sweetness, similar to a light sugar. Overall a highly drinkable DIPA.
