Commercial Description:
Stoudt's Double IPA is a strong, full-bodied ale with an intense hop character and deep golden color. This unusual brew is characteristic of the newly recognized style of extremely hoppy and malty ales of American origin. The Double IPA is our strongest beer with an alcohol of over 10% abv and bitterness of more than 75 IBU's. Multiple kettle hop additions and generous dry hopping contribute to the powerful yet smooth and fragrant hop character of this beer. 10% abv.

12oz bottle purchased from Wine Gallery in Boston. Pours a clear light gold with a bunch of little floaties from the bottle conditioning. Not the best looker. Strong resiny, piney hop aroma. First taste is warm with a good balance of malt and hops, with the strong piney hop aftertaste. I was surprised to look up the alcohol content, since it’s not labelled on the bottle - I feel it should be, it would be easy to misjudge the booze in this one. There is a touch of sweetness in the taste, but otherwise the 10+% strength is well masked. Nice stuff, if you like that kind of thing.... and I do!

Aroma mild citrus hops. Appearance hazy yellwo-amber little head but moderate lacing. Flavor not as hoppy nor as bitter as I would expect from a double IPA. Palate full bodied without being oily. Overall impression smoother than I would expect from a double IPA. Hides the alcohol well.

12oz bottle. Poured a clear light orange color. Head was off white and left a bit of lace behind. Pleasant aroma of malty caramel, subdued alcohol, and distinct citrusy hops. Medium bodied and slightly sweet. There was mild to moderate hop bitterness up front. I tasted pineapple, orange liqueur, and light flowery hops. Tasty.

Bright gold body with a light off white head. The aroma has some rich notes of dank grapefruit along with some cherries. There is also some earthy fresh bread dough. The taste has some sweet bread crust and canned peaches. There is also a little bit of cinnamon spice and some hints of orange peels. The body is obviously big, but it goes down smooth. A decent, well blanced IIPA, but not for hop heads. More like an American Strong ale that is on the malty end in my opinion.

Pours a hazy orange with an impressive bouquet for a double IPA. The alchohol is not that well disguised leaving the palate a bit dry. This beer didn’t stand out much in my latest "mix pack"but I’d buy it again.

Aroma of citrus hops and very sweet malt. Very hoppy flavor with enough malt to balance. Definately some alcohol shows through. Fairly thick mouthfeel and a bitter hop finish.

Sampled at the Impromptu Butter’s 6th cellar clearance. Pours a clear orange with small clumps of bigbubble white head. A floral bouquet of hops in both aroma and flavor. Caramel malt balances this nicely, some piney qualities. The abv is hidden very well. Semi-bitter lingering finish is also sweet.

12 oz bottle from a trade with franksnbeans. pours slightly hazy orange with a small tan head. low amount of carbonation. aromas are malty with some hops but not at all what youd expect from a DIPA. flavours are a little muddled and boozy. drinkable but a little rough at some points. alcohol on the palate here as well. i was expecting more, especially from a bottle this fresh.
