ROGUE (621), Newark, Delaware, USA Sep 27, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours a clear golden orange with a two finger fothy white head. The smell is mostly sweet malts with some citrus hoppiness. The taste is sweet bready malts along with citrus floral hops. Much more malt flavor than most IPA’s. jhumphries69 (717), Tyrone, Georgia, USA Sep 26, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours a pleasant orange-brown with a slight haze and a thick off-white head. The aroma is sweet and hoppy with a blend of grapefruit, earthy hop resin, and pine needles. The flavor follows the aroma - a pleasant level of hops that persist throughout and cut a broadly bitter path across the tongue with a funky and somewhat earthy bitterness combined with other typical American hop notes - like evergreen and bitter citrus. The malts provide a fairly thick and chewy honey-like sweetness throughout. The finish is a bit full with a firm but not overpowering bitterness. The alcohol is well hidden. The mouthfeel is full and thick with a decent level of carbonation that lightens the body. Overall, a decent beer - but a bit full and sweet. Admittedly, it is very smooth considering that it’s over 10% alcohol. vtafro (452), , New Jersey, USA Sep 25, 2009 Tap @ Isaac Newton’s. Pours golden orange with light head. A little sweeter than i would have liked which comes from the extra malt needed to boost this to 10.6 percent. Decent IIPA. Haack (101), Hornslet, Denmark Sep 17, 2009 This is one of the best double IPA I have tried. Normally they tent to be very sweet but this beer is more hoppy and bitter. Just the way I like it. Leighton (234), New York, New York, USA Sep 17, 2009 When I’m out on the town with company, I use a simple five-point scale to rate beers and keep track of what I try. I find that jotting down copious notes can be out of sync with the spirit of things - in certain situations. Anyway, I rate beers from 1 to 5; Soudts Double IPA got a 6.
I had this one on tap at Lucky Dog in Brooklyn. AskForJenny (627), Ontario, New York, USA Sep 11, 2009 12oz - Hoopy nose, plenty of hops on palate. No real backbone and really sweet for an IPA. I’ve had worse. caresville (106), Vernon, New Jersey, USA Sep 11, 2009 best in the stoudt’s line of beer. hands down. this is one of my all time favorite’s. pours a cloudy golden haze with a foamy white head. smells of major hops and some pear and grapefruit. very bitter but easily drinkable as there is some citrus zing in there (thats how the alcohol is well hidden in my opinion). goes down pretty easy and you get a solid buzz as soon as youre on number 2. amazing stuff. pete4999 (121), Buffalo, New York, USA Sep 6, 2009 Very well done. Orangeish-gold pour, white head. Nice citrus fruit scent, apricot. Bitter but still flavorful taste. Almost a subtle woody taste. Goes down very smooth, definitely don’t taste the 10.6% ABV. Very nice.
