3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12 oz. bottle from The Hop Yard, Raleigh, NC (9.43% ABV according to the label). Dark orange pour with a frothy off-white head. Aroma of lemon, tangerine, and wet grass. Taste is good with tropical fruits (mango, pineapple, and oranges) upfront and a slightly sweet malt profile to balance. Lacks any real hop bitterness that I would normally find in an IPA/DIPA as the hop profile is just fruity. Much better than I remember from when I first had this years ago but still this would not be my go-to DIPA.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
bottle @ Jungle Jim’s / Eastgate OH --- Cloudy dark amber, frothy off-white 1" head, streamers of lace. Taste is strong sweet malt in a brew that has the audacity to smash it with equally strong citrus hops. The hops aren’t up to the assignment, as the malt re-takes the brew in a long, slow, finish. A really big brew that isn’t as good as it pretends to be. A solid brew, but not a top dog.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
12oz bottle. Over a year old. Was told it was better as a year old barleywine than a fresh barleywine. And they’re right. Bitter English barleywine. Caramel malts. Slight booze. Not bad.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured clear, amber, huge off white head, nice lacing all over the glass. Hoppy aroma, some malts, fruits and some booze. Taste starts bready and malty, hoppy and fruity towards the end; a bit boozy too. Very enjoyable and quite drinkable.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Deep cloudy orange color, head isn’t there but the lace is all over the glass. Aroma is hop, wheat, dark fruit, yeast, alcohol. The fruits come flying out of the wine glass I’m drinking this out of. Excellent. Flavor is hop, roasted malt, stone fruits, lime, vegetables, oak, pine, spice. I feel the warmth from the ABV after only three sips. Delightful.

Appearance – Pours a beautiful vibrant orange color with a small white head. The head fades rather fast to leave a decent level of lacing.
Smell – The aroma is sweet and delicious. It’s sweetness is largest in a tangerine smell, but has other sweet smells of caramel, banana, and some tropical fruits. Along with the sweet is a nice bready aroma and some notes of a yeasty nature. Overall it is a wonderful smell.
Taste – The taste begins of a big bready and malty flavor with hints of a the tropical fruit and tangerine are present. The bready and malty flavors create a base for the brew and remain rather constant throughout, but the fruit sweetness varies through the taste. The fruit initially starts light, grows stronger toward the middle, and then fades again toward the end. During the sweet flavor transitions the hop flavors transition as well. In the beginning there is a light citrus hop. More toward the middle of the taste more grapefruit and lemon citrus come to the tongue. In the end, the hop flavors increase again as some earthy hops join the mix. The combination of the malty, hoppy and light fruit are joined by a medium alcohol presence to leave a bitter hop and light tingling warmth on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – At 10 % abv the body of the beer is medium with a carbonation level that is average.
Overall –This beer has a very nice taste, smell and look. It’s pretty good stuff and well worth a try.
