Commercial Description:
Stoudt's Double IPA is a strong, full-bodied ale with an intense hop character and deep golden color. This unusual brew is characteristic of the newly recognized style of extremely hoppy and malty ales of American origin. The Double IPA is our strongest beer with an alcohol of over 10% abv and bitterness of more than 75 IBU's. Multiple kettle hop additions and generous dry hopping contribute to the powerful yet smooth and fragrant hop character of this beer. 10% abv.

Draft pint at Capital Alehouse. Clear light copper/orange with almost no head. Aroma of piney/citrusy american hops with a bit of malt sweetness. Citrusy american hops dominates flavor with enough malt sweetness to ballance. Medium mouthfeel with hop bitterness in the finish. Very nice tasty IPA.

Draught. Pours an orangy amber. Aroma was brown sugar, sweet and malty with a touch of something like rubbing alcohol. Taste was sweet, candied fruit, alcohol. A nice thick brew.

Heavy malt flavor of cereal, nuts, and caramel. Heavy hebal hoppy flavor of resin and grapefruit. Moderately yeasty. Plum, charcoal, honey, and alcohol flavors throughout. Very malty and hoppy. Frothy head is light brown, excellent, and mostly diminishing. Clear medium, amber orange body. Lightly sweet. Moderately acidic. Heavily bitter. Long duration. Full body, was dry, creamy, and lively carbonation. Nice long finish. A great beer.

This pours a bright darker shade of orange with some head and a bit of lacing hanging around throughout the beer. Sweet and fruity hopped aroma but it isn’t all that powerful. The flavor consists of a crisp hoppy grapefruit bite, a bit sweet and a mild bitter aftertaste. The hops don’t scream Imperial IPA to me. More like a solid IPA and certainly doesn’t seem like there’s 10% abv in here. It must be well hidden!

bottle poured a light amber with good carbonation and a thick two finger head. aroma has sweet candy hops, caramel malt, citrus peel, and grapefruit. mouth feel is medium full with frothy carbonation. flavor is spicy fruit hops colliding with a heavy dose of malt that stands up to the bite. bitterness creeps in leaving a finish of hop resin and thickness that lingers on for a while. definitely a chewy malted version of the style that i would never have thought was 10.6% abv.

From bottle... poured cloudy and pale gold. Disappointingly weak aroma. Flavor was OK... somewhat overwhelmingly grapefruit. Somewhat sticky palate. Not too impressed. Probably wouldn’t get again.

12 fl oz. Tasted in comparisson with other double IPAs. Very light clear amber colour with a little white head. Not much aroma for a IIPA. Little aroma of perfume from the hops and hints of caramel. Nice, sweet, bitter flavour with notes of caramel, malt and hops. Very nice taste and ends with a nice inner warm feeling from the alcohol.
