Commercial Description:
Stoudt's Double IPA is a strong, full-bodied ale with an intense hop character and deep golden color. This unusual brew is characteristic of the newly recognized style of extremely hoppy and malty ales of American origin. The Double IPA is our strongest beer with an alcohol of over 10% abv and bitterness of more than 75 IBU's. Multiple kettle hop additions and generous dry hopping contribute to the powerful yet smooth and fragrant hop character of this beer. 10% abv.

12 fl oz. Tasted in comparisson with other double IPAs. Very light clear amber colour with a little white head. Not much aroma for a IIPA. Little aroma of perfume from the hops and hints of caramel. Nice, sweet, bitter flavour with notes of caramel, malt and hops. Very nice taste and ends with a nice inner warm feeling from the alcohol.

12 oz. pours a nice deep gold with good head. Flavor is grapefruit and other typical double ipa flavors, but with a nice fungal earthiness. Great palate, nice and full and rounded. Aroma was of orange and pine, could have been stronger. Overall, great, but shy of any truly outstanding characteristic.

Classic American double IPA; would have seemed knock my socks off great a couple of years ago and still very enjoyable. More orange and pine than a Stone grapefruit and mint sort of hoppy. More cloudy orange than clear pale. Sweet malts, caramel, orange, surprising notes of apricot in the nose, and long bitter finish. Some serious alcohol, but well hidden.

From a bottle. Pours a deep copper color. Aromas of citrusy hops and caramel malts. This beer had a good citrus and pine bite to it along with a balancing malt notes. Alcohol is hidden well.

12 oz bottle purchased at Oak Tree bottled on 07/26/2007 according to the neck stamp. Pours a clear orangey amber with a large tight foamy white head. Aroma is not as hoppy as I was expecting and has a good amount of malt showing. Notes of caramel, citrus, honey and bread. Body is thinner then I was expecting with nice carbonation and just a slight hint of alcohol warming on the back of your throat and finishes with just a slight touch of bitterness. Sweet flavor, think a very watered down 120 Min, hops are starting to fade but what remains is highly drinkable. Well at least I have a gauge to judge other IIPAs by, <=8 months old good >8months old not so good.

Whoa. On tap at the pub. Nice dark golden colr with a thick white head that stands, and stands.........nose is of grapefruit and other citrus, honey. Taste is hoppy, very hoppy up front, but with a sweet, smooth aftertaste. This is one remarkable beer.

Pour a golden orange, with a thin head. Aroma was hoppy with a hint of grapefruit, but had something about it smelled a bit off. Somewhat thick mouthfeel. Malts balance the alcohol.
