I liked it. estoppel (1028), Buffalo, New York, USA

Small white head, lacing coats the whole glass. Clear, amber hue. Catching hints of honey. Syrupy palate. Moderate sweet, it could use a stronger bite. dsm (109), Baltimore, Maryland, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 22, 2008 Draft at Mahaffey’s. The hops dominate but don’t pack the punch I expected for a DIPA. Bitter finish. Guinness4Duff (507), Tallahassee (and Poconos, PA), Florida, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 20, 2008 Very bitter, but in a good way. Doesnt quite have the aroma you would expect but the unrelenting white head is impressive. $11 for a six pack is well worth the price. joe1510 (501), Illinois, USA

Stoudt’s Double IPA appears a slightly hazy copper with large slow rising carbonation bubbles. A one-plus finger clean white head grew as I poured but fell rather quickly to an island with a thick ring. Quality drinklines were left after each drink. A good looking IIPA.
The aroma is pretty good but, unfortunately, is on the weak side. Very candied up front with boozy sweet caramel in the background. The hops bring along candied citrus, orange maybe some lemon. Hard to put my finger on.
Flavor follows the aroma closely but seems just as weak. For such a big abv the flavor just isn’t there. Again, it tastes good but just seems a little sluggish. The alcohol is well hidden and the candied citrus is pretty tasty over that caramel backdrop but it’s just not my style.
Body is on the moderate side of heavy with a coating mouthfeel. The carbonation, while on the lighter side, keeps this beer moving just enough to keep it from becoming too sticky.
The big abv and lack flavors on the weaker side for the style make this a one and done. This bottle will get sipped on and be the last (Stoudt’s IIPA) of the night.
This is a decent brew from Stoudts. With the crazy amount of high quality IIPAs out there now-a-days it’s tough to justify picking this one up again. I have another bottle left and will enjoy it but that will probably be my last sample.

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 10, 2008 Copper pour with a nice white foamy head. Nose of grapefruit and some caramel. Flavor is nice big and hoppy with a smooth pinch of lightly roasted malt. Medium body with good bit of warmth from the higher alcohol. Finish is bitter and tasty. Thanks to goldtwins for this bottle. beerbiere (101), Montréal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 10, 2008 Orangey with a decent head. Aroma of lemongrass, peach, sucre d’orge (barley sugar) and yellow grapefruit. Of course, very hoppy but well balanced. Never too sweet nor too bitter. Its taste is not so far from a barleywine. Full body, good length. Nice, I’m not a fan of double ipas but this one is well done!
