Commercial Description:
Stoudt's Double IPA is a strong, full-bodied ale with an intense hop character and deep golden color. This unusual brew is characteristic of the newly recognized style of extremely hoppy and malty ales of American origin. The Double IPA is our strongest beer with an alcohol of over 10% abv and bitterness of more than 75 IBU's. Multiple kettle hop additions and generous dry hopping contribute to the powerful yet smooth and fragrant hop character of this beer. 10% abv.

Rated 7/9/07. Clear golden body with a thin white film for a head that leaves behind some nice lacing. Aroma is complex, showing lots of malt, toffee, butterscotch, grassy hops, and herbs. Flavor has a nice malty, buttery background, but the grassy/herbal hops really power their way through at first. It goes on to balance itself out as it warms, and turns into buttery smooth goodness. Medium body, with a strong hoppy and then smooth malty finish. The high ABV is well hidden. Very, very good DIPA.

Bottle. Nice coppper color and pleasant sweet fruity aroma. Slightly bitter flavor which severey lacks the hopped up pucker I’m longing for. Remove the label and I’d linke the beer more, but knowing I’m in store for the hops- I can’t rave about this one.

It pours an orange/amber color with good foam. The aroma is piny, bitter, hoppy, and you can spell the alcohol. The taste is hoppy, bitter, smooth after taste esp for a 10 percent beer. You can taste the alcohol in it.

Poured from a bottle...beautiful head withs very nice slightly cloudy orange tinged appearance. The head is long lasting. The carbonation is light, although the present bubbles add to the appearance. The aroma is hoppy, I like. The flavor is unique and wonderful. Very bitter and hoppy...I love this one.

Solid brew here. Nice malt presence in it, really up front. Smooth drinker with a nice crisp finish. The aroma was the only thing really laking...

Pretty average IIPA in my opinion. It looks fairly nice and has a pleasantly full body, but there’s something quite indistinct and mushy about the hop profile of this beer. Sure, the malting is okay but what’s a IIPA about if not the hops, right? It’s got a kick but it’s just a bit shaggy. Given all the other brews out there, this one’s only a modest thumbs-up.

12 oz bottle. Almost clear muddy orange with a snowy white head. Fruity nose of orange caramel, apple juice and juniper. Bitter orange-pineapple gets more bitter tending to lime peel and gin. Body is a bit too heavy to be refreshing. Light carb; resiny, sticky. Long, dry, aspirin aftertaste.

12 oz bottle - looks like thick unpasteurized honey in the glass, cloudy copper hued, with a very nice cream coloured head that lasts throughout the glass and leaves intricate lace. Aroma big juicy grapefruit, candied hops and some very sweet malt. This is just all-around BIG. Flavour very, very nicely balanced with the hops and malt mingling expertly. Very soft, creamy mouthfeel. Pleasantly bitter, but slightly too alcoholic in the back palate. You know you’re drinking a strong one here. An all-around excellent beer.
