Stoudt's Double IPA is a strong, full-bodied ale with an intense hop character and deep golden color. This unusual brew is characteristic of the newly recognized style of extremely hoppy and malty ales of American origin. The Double IPA is our strongest beer with an alcohol of over 10% abv and bitterness of more than 75 IBU's. Multiple kettle hop additions and generous dry hopping contribute to the powerful yet smooth and fragrant hop character of this beer. 10% abv.

9/3/2010. From bottle. Cloudy amber orange color with a white head. Boozy aromas with malt, citrus, pine and tropical fruit. Bitter hoppy flavors with a boozy finish.

Pours a golden color with suspended cloud swirls with an off white, large, fluffy head. Lace snags and spiderwebs as the head subsides. Sweet toffee/caramel dominates the nose. Some subtle notes of citrus waft out of the glass as well. Full, smooth texture that becomes progressively astringent as the beer finishes. Pretty malty, but not as much as the nose would indicate. Some mildly tart citrus blends pretty nicely with the maltiness. Some zinc expresses itself as well. Nothing great. Certainly not worth the $14.50 I paid for the sixer.

A: Hazy Golden Straw Hue, Passes Some Light, Very Thin White Head Ring, Some Lacing S: Earthy, Clay, Mild Citrus T: Orange Juice, Mildly Malty M: Mediocre Carbonation, Light to Medium Bodied, Mildly Citrus Overall, I dont know if it is the most mildly balanced DIPA or a faux IPA with orange juice mixed in...make a decision and get back to me because whatever is playing the part of a DIPA is not cutting it and should be let go.

On tap. Hazy orange gold color. Small white head. Big pine, grapefruit nose. Bittersweet toasted malt flavor has nice notes of mango and and pine hops. Fruity a complex. Huge bitter, spicy dry hop finish.

apricot/mango slight pine-y a little wood (oak) really good...very good on initial 2-3 drinks, but then forward, loses itís luster and could be a bit more heavy on hops. This is being a little critical...itís really, really good!

Serving: 12 oz. bottle from State Line Liquors. It pours a hazy reddish color with a small off white head. The nose has an unusual fruity aroma. Not quite tropical. A good bit of caramel as well. The flavor leans towards the sweet side with overripe orange and that weird fruity note that I canít quite place. Medium to full body with a medium to long finish. While solid, for some reason this one didnít wow me.

Pours golden amber with a thick off white head. Aroma is tropical mango-apricot and some light malts. Taste is sweet tropical flavors with a blast of pine and a bitter finish. This is a powerfully flavored DIPA!5

On tap at Joe Canals West Deptford.
Appearance: The body is slightly hazy with an amber hue, the creamy head is light tan and has great retention.
Aroma: The aroma is caramel and bright orange, perhaps peach too.
Taste: Very nicely balanced with only a slight hint of alcohol on the finish. Big malty body is balanced by orange and peach hop flavor and a light bitterness.
Palate: Medium body bordering on thick with soft carbonation.
Overall: This is a really good IIPA that Iíve been passing up for a while. I wonít any more.

Bottle to glass. Pours a clear light amber orange color with a moderate off-white head. The aroma is a bit off-putting, almost soapy/musty, with a slight hint of citrusy hops. Flavor more than makes up for it though. Well balanced citrusy hop bitterness with a light malt and fruity sweetness. Light bitterness and heavy fruity sweetness linger in finish. Medium creamy body. I like drinking this, but if it werenít for the aroma, I would have rated this beer much higher.
