Beerdedone (1873), Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 1, 2006 Sampled at the brewfest in Adamstown. Pours golden with a white head. Aroma of citrus, hops, and fruit. The flavor is bitter, citrus, alcohol and fruit. dogfishho (172), Bloomfield, New Jersey, USA Oct 31, 2006 Have been wiating to try a beer of this style for quite some time and this appears to be a great candidate to break the ice. Pours a nearly opaque burnt orange color with a fairly thin cream colored head. The nose is powerful and full of dried apricot, fresh oranges and grapefruit. The flavor is malty and fruity with little bitterness from the hops. The alcohol is present but not at all out of balance with the sweetness of the initial palate offering. Mouthfeel is creamy and smooth, making this a very palatable drink. I enjoyed it very much and would definitely reccomend it to anyone. shigadeyo (2210), Harrison, Ohio, USA Oct 28, 2006 Well, I needed something to drink while posting my ratings from this past week, so what better than a Stoudts Double IPA? Truth be told, it was actually the only bottle cold at the moment (that situation has been rectified though!)...
Pours a hazy orange color and looks quite thick. There appears to be hop and yeast particles suspended in it, but that won’t stop me; actually it looks quite intruiguing and inviting! Two finger, dense light orange head. Lots of lacing! Aroma is bread, light citrus hops, and even a little woody. Flavor is sweet malt, bitter orange/grapefruit zest, some piney hop bitterness, and alcohol. Warming alcohol sensation comes through in the finish with some sugary sweetness and orangy hop bittterness. Mouthfeel is fairly thick, but smooth and enjoyable. Very good without being too over the top (or too expensive!)
12 oz bottle, $2.13 from River’s Bend. scoobyluv (486), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA Oct 26, 2006 dark golden color and turbid. minimal head. spice and raisin nose. very sweet and raisin-y tasting. wilkie (1189), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA Oct 22, 2006 Bottle. Orange hazy color, off-white head. Aroma is hoppy, soap and grapefruit, as well as malty. Flavor is malty--hint of caramel), and very hoppy, with alcohol in aftertaste. Very good. MIBRomeo (1962), Wisconsin, USA Oct 17, 2006 copper pour nice dense white head w/ some good lacing. Highly sweat aroma, toffees, breads, and carmels alcohol, not much hop touches of grass. Palate is smooth and well coated. Flavor was very sweet lots of carmels, some toffees a touch of grass a light spice some definate alcohol notes more of a BW than an IIPA. Trooper11 (464), Suffolk, Virginia, USA Oct 13, 2006 Amber-orangish brew with large foamy off-white head, but of an orange tint. Tight, detailed lacing. Very malty aroma, bread and citrus notes. Bit of a kick of bitter in the begining, followed by a gentle warming. Alot of bitter, with notes of citrus on the tip of my tongue cmplimented by sweet malt on the back of the tongue. Wow, pretty consistant warming sensation troughout the torso. Definitely something for the cold winter nights.
