AlabastorJones (762), San Francisco, California, USA Sep 20, 2006 deep orange/red body with no head, syrupy alcohol nose, sweet flavor, well balanced and alcohol is well masked in initial flavor but in the finish is boozy, not overly hoppy but good. pantani (1894), Salinas, California, USA Sep 14, 2006 Amber gold body with a 1/2 inch white head. Aroma is very grassy, with grapefruit, lemon, also a bit of orange zest. Taste is very sweet, with a alcohol undertown along with the citrus, and marshmellow. interesting, body and taste is slightly watery though. RagallachMC (631), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Sep 13, 2006 bottle. Aroma: some grapefruit, but an equal amount of orange and lemon. Some pine and light resin, as well. Good caramel and toasty malt aroma with a bit of sugary sweetness. Appearance: Dark orange in color and slightly hazy. Light beige head was full and creamy with good retention. Nice lacing. Flavor: Big juicy fruit flavor with grapefruit, orange, pineapple, and oddly..strawberries. Sweet, caramle malt flavor is just short of being to sweet. Pine and resin kick in right before the finish. Bitterness seemed a little low for an IIPA, but was nice nonetheless. Palate: Medium-full bodied. Moderate carbonation. Finish is sweet, but not too sweet. Overall: A good, drinkable IIPA. A little light on mouthfeel and perhaps not bitter enough, but good. sheatripper (863), Brooklyn, New York, USA Sep 10, 2006 Bottle. Poured slightly hazy orange, quickly diminishing head, some thin lacing. Aroma of citrus, floral and pine hops with some peach, apricot and a bit of cheesy yeast. Off-sweet malt flavor with an apparent but rather restrained showing of hops. A bit of hop bitterness on the finish. Palate a little thinner than I expected for a 2IPA. Alcohol pretty well hidden. Overall decent, but needs a bit more body. The availability in 12 oz. six-packs is a bonus. realale420 (399), west covina, California, USA Sep 9, 2006 12oz bottle poured a clear orange color with a small off white head and some lacing. The aroma had some spice from the hops, sweet caramel and some fusel alcohol that overpowered the hop character. The taste had an extremely smooth spicy bitterness for a double with some alcohol warming alongside a dry finish. Overall not a beer that I would go out of my way to try again. kramer (2407), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 9, 2006 12 oz bottle. Pours a very slightly hazy bright copper colored body under a one finger creamy off-white head that left some delicate lacing. Aroma is full of piney hops over a very syrupy thick caramel and toasted malt base. Flavor is aggressively hopped yet it is just enough to balance out all of the sweetness. Neither really outshines the other. Mouthfeel is fairly thick with nice pleasing soft carbonation that keeps it from getting too sticky. Overall, this is one for those who crave balance in their IIPA’s. It was nice but not mind-blowing. JMFG (1514), Florida, USA Sep 3, 2006 Pours a dark orange color with a thin white head. Aroma has a sweet pine character to it, but is very mild for a DIPA. Palate is thick, but well carbonated and appropriate for a 10% ABV beer. The taste is mildly sweet and grapefruity with a mild hoppy finish. The alcohol is somewhat apparent. This could just as well have been called a barleywine. ultraspank (866), Dublin, Ohio, USA Aug 31, 2006 Fruity and floral nose with hints of berries and brown sugar. Sparkling orange with melon
highlights. Ooops! I musta missed the “bottle conditioned” imprinted on the label b/c I
didn’t decant the second pour. Lotsa sea monkeys suspended in my glass. Oh well... The
average bone colored head is mostly lasting with creamy spidery lace. The real story here
is the brew’s exceptional flavor. Great balance and spectacular depth can keep you
guessing all day long. Never a dull moment as they say. Moderate acidity, with plenty of
sweetness tumbling around with the bitters on your taste buds. The full body is very
creamy and soft. Very nice.
