Draft at Cock and Bull Pub in Sarasota, FL. Clear gold/copper. Solid, off white sponge of a head. All hops. Nose is mostly citrusy sweet and floral, the flavor adds pine, resin, and grass. Just a touch of malt. Medium/full, balanced palate. Dangerously drinkable.

bottle. pours a slightly hazy orange with a medium off white head, good lacing. the carbonation on this beer is medium. I get almost all pineapple and orange in the aroma, as well as a good deal of pineapple in the taste. Interesting. The IBU’s can definitely be upped in this beer, as an imperial it is not bitter enough for the style...but it’s not a bad beer. I’m actually enjoying it, a different take on a IIPA. Alcohol is very well hidden. Finish has a tiny bit of bitterness, otherwise smooth and fruity.

A thin, off-white head tops this golden beer with a slight brownish tint. The aroma was a slightly sweet fruity scent. The taste seemed pretty bitter to me. The beer slides down pretty smooth and leaves a short lived, bitter aftertaste.

This IPA was bit strong for my taste. The 10.6 was very evident. I didn’t find the IPA that appealling. When the alcohol get over 8% the texture of the ale changes. The body changes and the beer loses some of the attraction for me. This was purchased at the Capital Ale House in Richmond. The second Double IPA was purchased at The Caboose in Ashland, VA. and was consumed on 8/21/06 to a much favorable aclaim. The color was an inviting deep gold with a modest head and some lacing. The alochol was detected but not as strong as before. I have changed my evaluation. My third was even better. I upgraded my score. My fourth was excellent. The higher alcohol was not noticed. The full bodied ale was far better than the first one.

Bottle. A decent IPA, better than a lot, but I’ve had a few better. Nice looking - burnt, glassy, orange color with an average head. Not a ton of aroma - what there was was sweet fruit. Taste folllowed. Nice bitter, hoppy finish. I don’t know that this was actually an imperial. Just a good, solid IPA. Nothing tremendous.

Very nicely hopped double IPA, warm orange color. Available at several local bars and in cases at local distributors (at a great price for a good Double/Imperial IPA).

Fresh from the brewer, this pours an orange caramel into the glass with a little head and lace. The nose is of pine, grapefruit and candy fruit jelly slices. The jellies transfer into the flavor, with orange hues predominating over pine, toffee, heavy grapefruit, sweetened limes and caramel malts. Honestly, for a beer, it’s a GREAT, and I do mean GREAT brew, but it doesn’t quite remind me of a IIPA/Imperial. It’s a bit candied sweet, instead of the typical added malty sweetness, and the finish isn’t nearly as heavy as I would’ve expected. I’m perplexed, as I’m torn between my joy of the brew and the slight style imperfection. I think I’ll go with my joy! Very good brew, and very glad I got several of these to go directly from Stoudt’s.
