Commercial Description:
Stoudt's Double IPA is a strong, full-bodied ale with an intense hop character and deep golden color. This unusual brew is characteristic of the newly recognized style of extremely hoppy and malty ales of American origin. The Double IPA is our strongest beer with an alcohol of over 10% abv and bitterness of more than 75 IBU's. Multiple kettle hop additions and generous dry hopping contribute to the powerful yet smooth and fragrant hop character of this beer. 10% abv.

Poured a clear light peach color with a thick rocky dense head. Aroma is quite pungent and enticing. Honey, orange, peach, And definately hops. Flavor packs just as much of a puch. It starts out like the aroma would suggest then blends into candied apricot and hop the is perfectly balanced. There is just enough bitterness to hold back the sweetness but not enough to overpower it. The use of hops were definately aimed more for flavor and aroma than for bitterness, which is how I prefer my IPAs. This is tied with Alpine Brewing’s beers as my favorite strong IPAs.

Bottle shared with and courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours a cloudy, very bubbly, golden-orange with a large lasting fluffy white head. Big aroma of fresh citrus hops with some malt to balance it out -- very nice! Flavour is equally hoppy and malty with just a hint of the 10.6% alcohol and a nice bitter finish. Nice medium to full body. It probably suffered slightly due to following the Pizza Port Special Pale which knocked my socks off but this is still a damn fine IIPA.

Great-looking brew: frothy, lasting off-white h ead, nearly ruby-hued body. The aroma is too mild for a beer of this calibur: the alcohol content alone suggests that it should be meatier. Nice hoppy body with a well-matched bitterness. Too syrupy in the finish, though, probably to mask the alcohol, which is does do very well. Somewhat spicy, but not anything unique.

On draft at the Capital Ale House outside of Richmond VA. Pours an attractive orange color with a thick white head. Aroma is surpisingly malty with just a little bit of resiny pine. Very well balanced beer. Not the hoppiest DIPA I’ve had by any stretch. Apart from the super sweet malt background. The flavor seems to start off sort of piney with more citrus flavors coming up as the beer warms. At the end I was picking up a bit of pineapple. Very solid.

Tap at Toronado. A most excellent IPA. Pours golden amber with a ncie head. Aromas of fruit and hops. Flavors more of the same. It is a bitter hoppiness but a the same time there is a counter effect a soothing maltiness. It is not a West Coast hop bomb but rather more refined.

12oz bottle from Bev Mo La Mesa. One of the best double IPA’s I’ve ever had! Pours a hazy deep orange color, head was off white and big. Nose of grapefruit, pine and lots of hops. The finish was creamy....almost buttery! A great Imperial IPA!!!
