HogTownHarry (3922), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Jun 6, 2006 Updated: Jun 8, 2006Bottle (12oz). Shared with blankboy, my bottle. Hazy orange, large white creamy-rocky head. Lovely resiny-citrus hop aroma, enough malt and lactic sweetness to balance - really nice. Taste is almost too balanced, malt & citrus hops, a little bitter in the finish - solid. Creamy, astringent, lively mouthfeel - really like this one. eaglefan538 (2355), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Jun 2, 2006 Updated: Jul 16, 2006I was underwhelmed by the level of hoppiness, this being my second Imperial IPA ever. Was bracing for the worst, and this one was quite pleasing. Clear golden yellow in color, this one had a slight fruity / citrus taste. There was an alcohol balance, along with the malt, that made the hops rather enjoyable. A nice summer beer after working out or playing sports.... well, if you can stand the level of alcohol and aren’t already dehydrated. Re-rate, July ’06: Some melon and apricot notes came out behind a pretty malty rich base of caramel and even breadiness (a bock-like maltiness in a way). A bit too malty, sticky, but not sweet. Good hop showing, contrary to what I’ve read since my last review. Bumping down aroma, mouthfeel, flavor, and overall. Appearance was much deeper, orange-amber in color, decent head, good lacing. bgburdman9 (822), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jun 2, 2006 Poured an amberish red color with a thick and heavy head that lasted forever. Aroma of sweet maltiness and hoppiness. Flavor was pretty sweet and had mild bitterness. The hoppiness was not overpowering as in some other IIPA’s. When i looked this up and noticed that it was 10.6% i was shocked. I still can barely taste the alcohol and it has warmed up quite a bit, because of that I bumped it up .2. pintocb (508), Darsville, Georgia, USA May 30, 2006 Got this at Green’s in Atlanta last night. Nice orange color, slightly cloudy. Unusual malt flavor with notes of raisins then the hops kick in. Not that hoppy or bitter. You can taste the alcohol, but it doesn’t taste like 10.6%. Not the best IPA2, but drinkable. tmad (93), Dayton, Ohio, USA May 26, 2006 Updated: Jun 28, 2006A great tasting India Pale Ale, has more malt flavor than I would expect, but that is not a bad thing. Plenty of hops, but not as powerful as I would expect. The abundance of malt results in a decreased hop presence. This is a refreshing beer with a desirable sweet malt flavor with just the right amount of hop bitternes. This may be one of my new favorites. Has a nice hop finish not as dry or bitter as some Pale Ales. RCL (1444), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA May 24, 2006 I am a big fan of this beer. Lots of hops, but with the malt to back it up. Thick mouthfeel. Citrus and floral. Just a great IPA. Hoss (602), Florida, USA May 21, 2006 This new style of the older IPA is an interesting brew. it has the full body flavor without being a killer in the overhops department. Thier was still flavor along with bitterness. Ibrew2or3 (2714), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA May 19, 2006 Updated: May 20, 2006Slightly hazy copper color with small off white head. Aroma is really weak. I think I smell grapefruit and a sweet/tart-cotton candylike aroma. The taste is a nice round hop flavor due to a late hop addition to the boil. There could be a bit more hop bitterness for this style beer. The flavor has no real stand out elements. It’s smooth. I taste the malt sweetness that mixes well with the hop flavor which results in a sweet and sour candy like taste. It’s a nice flavor. The beer finishes with a sweet and tart flavor along with the warmth of the alcohol. This beer is really good but isn’t what I was expecting due to the lack of actual hop bitterness. I will be buying it again.
