JFowler (30), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA Mar 18, 2006 Updated: Jun 29, 2006This is a mut of a beer if I should say so myself. Not in a bad way either. You want your IPA with a little world wide stout, or maybe a tripple double. Like Jimi says "Here my train a comin". Take your time with this one. VERY Complex. A myriad of distinct flavors for all to enjoy. Hint of antique woody flavor and smell. Can damage so be careful. Pours a solid amber with very little lacing which took me. Didn’t expect what I got. This is a must try for all . Stop wasting your time reading my review and go get some Stoudt’s Double IPA!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!! !!!!! illinismitty (1790), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Mar 16, 2006 Bottle. Pours orange with white head, spotty lacing. Citrusy hop aroma, but not aggressive. Initial flavor of butter rum life savers, orange, and carmel. This is countered by a pleasant citrusy hop bitterness. Semi dry and sweet finish. Alcohol well hidden by the hops. Not bad, but not as hoppy as I was expecting. But I would easily drink this again. rebelbrewer (125), Lithonia, Georgia, USA Mar 16, 2006 One word, It’s a beautiful thing! O.K. 4 words! One just wasn’t enough. It poured a clear (despite "bottle conditioned") medium to dark golden color. I poured this 12 ounce bottle straight down the gullet of a pint glass and got a four (4) finger head. That baby hung around longer than sin and left lacing all over my glass. Inviting? This beer was trying to seduce me!
Yeah, HOPS! This DIPA most definitely has them and they assault your nostrils. A piney odor is backed up by hints of floral that tease and then go away to be replaced by a malty aroma. And if you take a deep sniff you will smell the alcohol.
Up front you get the floral hop taste. Let it sit for a bit and the malt comes through like caramel. (I love this!) Swallow and the hops hit back and the piney hops crawl up your throat and hit your nostrils from behind.
It has a medium body and is creamy on the tongue. Very Smooth!
This is a great brew to me and very easy to drink which at 10% ABV can be dangerous.
GG (1613), NorCal, California, USA Mar 12, 2006 Good lord. This is a DOUBLE IPA? This is what you give someone who is just starting to venture out of the fizzy yellow beer world. Totally a DIPA on training wheels, this just simply pales in comparison to the real DIPA’s. Aroma of citrusy hops toned WAY down, mouthfeel was watery thin. Flavor profile SHOULD be "jump-up-and-bite-your-ass-check-this-out" hop crazy but instead it’s nothing more than a pale ale IMHO. If this is a DIPA, then I’m a gorgeous bikini model. Dinobrown (46), Virginia, USA Mar 12, 2006 12oz Pours a syrupy tang orange with very little head. Aroma is very sweet and candied with slight citrus notes. The flavor is sweet and the alcohol is quite present. The hops are much less apparent then I was expecting. Darkover (1308), Columbus, Ohio, USA Mar 7, 2006 Updated: Apr 23, 2007Hazy goldien color with a small white head and a fair amount of lacing. Citrus hop aroma. Flavor of citrus hops and sweet malt. Has an alcohol bite in the finish and is very warming. gputty (456), Virgina Beach, Virginia, USA Mar 6, 2006 From bottle. pours a deep orange brown with off-white head. Nose is dominated by orange citrus, with some other fruits and melon. Flavor is a lighter version of the nose and very smooth. Some alcohol in the finish. Nice. mlightner (2), USA does not count Mar 4, 2006 A very good Double IPA -- for a high gravity ale, this has the desired intense hoppiness balanced by maltiness. Flavor is a nice citris, a slight sweetness, then an enjoyable hoppy finish.
