Cornfield (4892), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Jan 10, 2006 To me, this came across as a thick APA more than an IIPA or even an IPA. Orange and headless, it darned near poured out like orange syrup. The aroma was mainly sweet malt with a suggestion of hop bitterness. Almost chewy, it tasted of caramel and toffee with a light earthy bitterness that didn’t make it to the finish. Not a bad brew, but not what I’d expected. Imbibed at a recent The LoSBD meeting thanks to Randy and

Beaver (588), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Jan 8, 2006 12 oz bottle. Pours a hazy golden orange with a fluffy white head that retains fairly well and coats the glass with lacing.
The aroma is spicy, piney hops with some melon and alcohol.
The flavor is sweet sugary melon initially with a subdued spicy bitterness. I don’t really care for the balance of the sweetness and spiciness. As I drink more, it collides into one big bland mess. There are some notes of alcohol in the finish. It is medium bodied and kind of watery but sticky.
Overall, a pretty mediocre DIPA and a pretty big disappointment. The sweetness far outweighs the bitterness. I prefer my DIPAs bitter. This reminded me a bit of Avery’s 11 DIPA.
htsprint1 (51), Urbana, Illinois, USA Jan 7, 2006 Shared with the LoSBD courtesy of Gene. Unique take on the 2IPA style. Very sweet. Fruity, hoppy aroma. Not so much over-the-top hoppiness. Well-hidden alcohol, this could be dangerous.
xproudfoot (729), Paleolithic, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 5, 2006 Bottle. Before I could get the cap completely off, I thought I smelled weed coming out the bottle. Whee! It’s cloudy brown-orange, like a... damn good ale, with a bunch of big bubbles clustering in groups along the sides of the snifter. Aroma is all hops with a hint of sweetness and...carrot cake? Oh, wow. That’s the sweetest, smoothest IPA I’ve had in recent memory, it’s rich and strong, and got good hops, but at the same time, kinda mellow. The hops and alcohol are really well balanced, this is a nice treat. Really looking forward to my Stoudt’s brewery visit right now... redlight (1445), Winter Park, Florida, USA Jan 2, 2006 On tap at the Yard House in Palm Beach Gardens. Great hop aroma. Golden brown. Very good hop flavor with some sweet malt to balance it. Lubiere (4464), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Jan 2, 2006 Hazy golden ale with creamy off white head. Caramel malt with nice floral hops. Sweet caramle in mouth with pungeant hops and notes of strawberries. Intense hops and rich bodied. Very nice. On tap at Clark’s Ale House, Summer 2005. 1FastSTi (2551), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA Dec 31, 2005 Pours to a hazy orangish amber body with a lasting light beige head and gorgeous lacing. The aroma is oranges and sweet caramelly malts with some grassy hops. The flavor is very malty for a DIPA. Lots of sweet honey biscuit malts with hints of nectarines and apricots. Quite good. Jeppe (2638), Ølbutikken, Denmark Dec 25, 2005 Pours unclear dark orange and a foamy light tan head. Lots of orange dominates the aroma with some bready and nutty notes as well. Nice hoppiness and a bit of alcohol too. Oily orangy flavor with plenty of hop and a soft mouthfeel. Full and sweet with a bitter end. Good one!
