COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Stoudt's Double IPA is a strong, full-bodied ale with an intense hop character and deep golden color. This unusual brew is characteristic of the newly recognized style of extremely hoppy and malty ales of American origin. The Double IPA is our strongest beer with an alcohol of over 10% abv and bitterness of more than 75 IBU's. Multiple kettle hop additions and generous dry hopping contribute to the powerful yet smooth and fragrant hop character of this beer. 10% abv.

Bottle. Light cloudy amber color. Good head. Unique initial aroma. Very unique taste; not my favorite. Light on palate for a double IPA.

Interesting..very interesting. Alright so lets break this one down. I hear double IPA is start getting skeptical. The lines get blurred sometimes. Is it gonna be hoppy and balanced or some weird malty sweet mess. This one takes a bit. It needs to warm up. I was worried it was gonna be a weird mess but as it warmed to room temp it only got better. Itís boozy..10.6% rightfully so. Itís very hoppy. Itís clean and has a good bite. I really dig this beer. Iím surprised I didnít try it sooner. I like the enamel eroding quality. Gives it a nice touch. Good stuff. Pennsylvania has a solid beer offering try this asap! This buzz though. Not a session beer.

Bottle @All My Vinyl Tasting, Edinburgh. Pours golden, nice big chunky grapefruit on the nose, same thing going on with the taste with a bit of orange/citrus fruits going on, then you get this almost chocolate aftertaste which iím guessing is the malts, its nice but a little odd.

Bottle at home. Pours clear gold, thin white head. Aromas of tropical fruit and smoke. Taste has warming alcohol, more hop bitterness and toffee. Spicy and lightly smoky finish. On the sticky side, but good.

2oz sample at International Great Beer Expo (Meadowlands). Pours a hazy orange color with a small foamy head. Aroma of caramel malt, and orange citrus. Taste of rotted citrus, citrus zest, caramel malt, and a hint of sour lemon.

slight aroma of caramel/hay mixture, dark golden color, , white foam, heavy lacing, light sweetness, medium body, creamy palate. This IPA has a somewhat odd taste - malty and sweet going down with a long hop finish. I also attribute this to high alcohol content. When I drink a beer with a high content (this is 9.84% on the bottle) I can taste what I describe as the alcohol. Not bad - good for some slow sipping beer enjoyment.

UPDATED: FEB 7, 2014 Big flavor. Think Mad Elf without the cherries. Malty and sweet. Big yet smooth hops. There is a reason why they put elephants on the label- 300+ calories! Not a session beer. Enjoy one bottle at a time.
