Commercial Description:
Stoudt's Double IPA is a strong, full-bodied ale with an intense hop character and deep golden color. This unusual brew is characteristic of the newly recognized style of extremely hoppy and malty ales of American origin. The Double IPA is our strongest beer with an alcohol of over 10% abv and bitterness of more than 75 IBU's. Multiple kettle hop additions and generous dry hopping contribute to the powerful yet smooth and fragrant hop character of this beer. 10% abv.

Bottle. Pours a nice orangish brown, aroma is floral, citrus and hoppy. A gorgeously flavored brew, with apricot citrus and very well balanced hop back end. Great stuff, up there with the best of the style.

Extremely hazy light copper color with a slight head but good lace. Aroma is a blend between piney and citrus hops with some fruity esters. Flavor is overwhelming with hops yet it also has a huge backbone of light crystal malts. Very smooth mouthfeel and the alcohol is very well hidden. Awesome double IPA.

Hazed amber, big creamy off white head. Nose was loaded with sticky sweet pine, grapefruit, orange zest, some pineapple and melon, light apricot, caramel, with additional light white pepper notes. Noted some breadiness too. Flavor was very well balanced, but a bit on the sweeter side. Full bodied, prickly carbonation, smooth, semi-bitter, drying finish. Very nice......

Bottle. Orange hazy color, off-white head. Aroma is hoppy, soap and grapefruit, as well as malty. Flavor is malty--hint of caramel), and very hoppy, with alcohol in aftertaste. Very good.

355 ml bottle. Golden orange. Extremely malty. Sweet, the hops makes a strong impression even though it does not fully stand up against the sweetness. The flavour is impressive. Strong and bold. A giant. This is a great beer.

Nice off-white head. Good density, lasts for a while and leaves some impressive lacing. Light carbonation. Juicy hops aroma that even my slight stuffed up nose can discern. Grapefruit, pine and malt. Color is a slightly cloudy dark orange with lots of very fine suspended particles. Smooth and silky in the mouth. Goes down very clean and very easy. Big malt thickness on the palate with a generous helping of hops to give it life. I concur with a couple of the other raters that this almost seems to have a tropical fruit hint to it (mango, papaya, ???). Slight tingle from over 10% alcohol. Hides it very well. Finish is smooth and leaves a light bitterness in the mouth. Not overpowering though. A top notch double IPA!

First...thanks to zathrus13 for this fine beer. It is one that definately should be allowed to warm a bit. More akin to a strong ale or american style barlewine, which is cool. Definately becomes more complex and layered as it warms. Intitially the dry, astrigent hop flavor dominates but after a bit of heating up the vanilla and cherry tone follow with a tart hoppiness that is very complimenting. The one drawback is the lack of malt complexity or backbone. More tart than sweet, but good nonetheless.

Beautiful full aroma of alcohol, cream, and citrus. Almost like an alcoholic creamcicle. Mhhmm. Pours a beautiful hazy, true IPA, orange/brown. The flavor is full and balanced, reminiscent of the 90 minute from Dogfish but not nearly as sweet and therefore, in my opinion, better. Perfect lingering aftertaste of flowers and vodka. Yum.
