Commercial Description:
Stoudt's Double IPA is a strong, full-bodied ale with an intense hop character and deep golden color. This unusual brew is characteristic of the newly recognized style of extremely hoppy and malty ales of American origin. The Double IPA is our strongest beer with an alcohol of over 10% abv and bitterness of more than 75 IBU's. Multiple kettle hop additions and generous dry hopping contribute to the powerful yet smooth and fragrant hop character of this beer. 10% abv.

Copper pour with a nice white foamy head. Nose of grapefruit and some caramel. Flavor is nice big and hoppy with a smooth pinch of lightly roasted malt. Medium body with good bit of warmth from the higher alcohol. Finish is bitter and tasty. Thanks to goldtwins for this bottle.

Sharp, grassy hops in the aroma, hints of orange, vanillla, malt. Flavor is mildly bitter, thick and chewy, with a bit of toasted malts and hints of alcohol.

Classic American double IPA; would have seemed knock my socks off great a couple of years ago and still very enjoyable. More orange and pine than a Stone grapefruit and mint sort of hoppy. More cloudy orange than clear pale. Sweet malts, caramel, orange, surprising notes of apricot in the nose, and long bitter finish. Some serious alcohol, but well hidden.

Pours a light amber with a large white head that fades to a medium head. Aroma is citrusy, earthy, and floral hops with a light sticky sweet malt sort of like cotton candy. Flavor is a light fruit peach and slight nectarine a slight pear, hops, alcohol, and cotton candy. The light fruity sticky sweet malt makes this one somewhat unique.

Gold orange with no real head present. Some spots of lace are here and there. Aroma contains plenty of fresh hops. Ranging from spicy/peppery to citrusy to bitter. Grassy and earthy hops as well. Deep caramel backs the hops nicely. Just a hint of brown sugar. The malts are a lot bolder in the flavor and the hop bitterness shows through with some bitter orange and lots of grapefruit. There is a bubblegum about as well. The bitterness creates a strong spice presence. Pretty big body that hides the alcohol well. Thought it does come through at the end of the beer by warming up a little. Finishes fairly bitter with a good malt backing.

Gold/orange color, with a quickly disappearing white head. Aromas are hops, grapefruit, pine, and some malt. Taste is sweet malt, grapefruit and has a crwamy mouthfeel. Very nice...

12 oz bottle via DocLock, thanks!...Hazy coppery hue with a frothy but mostly fading head but still prodcued very nice lacing. The aroma has moderate pineapple and hop spice, toasted and bready malts, surprisingly floral and aromatic hop signature, and dusty and metallic esters (minimal phenols, yeah baby). Well balance with initial hop bite followed quickly by malty smoothness. Fruity, peppery, and bubblegum undertones adds depth of palate. A quick rush of bitters on the finish before slowly fading to a mild lingering fruity final. The feel is sticky and dense, with a bite upfront to keep you interested. The alcohol is mostly hidden except for some warming well after the swallowing. A fine beer and one I would easily drink again. Yummy!

Golden amber color, medium off white head. Nice spicy hop aroma. Flavor was very nice, biscuity malts with a good dose of spicy hops and a little kick from the alcohol. Nice balance. Medium to full body, alcohol is present, but does not detract at all. I enjoyed this quite a bit. Thanks, rudolf.
