matt7215 (499), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada Apr 25, 2008 12 oz bottle from a trade with franksnbeans. pours slightly hazy orange with a small tan head. low amount of carbonation. aromas are malty with some hops but not at all what youd expect from a DIPA. flavours are a little muddled and boozy. drinkable but a little rough at some points. alcohol on the palate here as well. i was expecting more, especially from a bottle this fresh.
LilBeerDoctor (300), East Setauket, New York, USA Jul 20, 2008 Bottle. Pours a light brown with a small white head. Aroma of nice caramel malt, bitter citrus hops. Flavor of wheat cracker, good malt-hops balance. Crisp and quite tasty. Not very hoppy considering it’s a double IPA, but I still enjoyed it a lot. Nicely balanced. Abv is very well hidden. fredandboboflo (306), East Setauket, New York, USA Jul 20, 2008 Bottle. Aroma very fleshy citrus. Flavor the same tangy citrus, meshing nicely with mildly sweet, light but full-bodied malt. Very nice, although I feel like similar results have been achieved with less than 10.6 abv. Bungalo22 (222), Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA Jul 20, 2008 As Larry David would say: Pretty, Pretty Good. Pours a nice strong head that fades after a few minutes but leaves behind some nice lacing. The Stoudts Double IPA has a nice dark golden color. I had braced myself for a big hop flavor and I got it but not in that bad way. While saying it was balanced would be pushing it as that is not the point of this beer but it was very smooth and as balanced as a Double could be. The bitterness hits you on the way out though and if you stop sipping for a bit you are still tasting the bitterness. zappafan99 (256), Rock Hill, South Carolina, USA Jul 18, 2008 Taste 7/8, bottle(date incomprehensible/smeared ink) Looks: Very thick head atop a golden torso. Aroma: 1st hops-citrus/soap, 2nd caramel chewiness. Taste: Foamy goodness of the head adds a little texture to a thick bodied IIPA. Nice malt ratio/recipe- keeps from astringent/soapy affair. Nice. Better than some higher rated IIPAs, simply because they are more caustic. Thick foam hangs on to the glass like a mountain climber. Well done! Never tasted the alcohol. peter (331), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 10, 2008 Nose is a hopbomb. Grassy nose with some tangerine notes. Quite a foamy pour. Flavour is orange and grapefruit on top of caramel. Bitterly dry on the finish.
