EddieG (162), Palos Heights, Illinois, USA Mar 16, 2005 First...thanks to zathrus13 for this fine beer. It is one that definately should be allowed to warm a bit. More akin to a strong ale or american style barlewine, which is cool. Definately becomes more complex and layered as it warms. Intitially the dry, astrigent hop flavor dominates but after a bit of heating up the vanilla and cherry tone follow with a tart hoppiness that is very complimenting. The one drawback is the lack of malt complexity or backbone. More tart than sweet, but good nonetheless.
GMCC2181 (422), Bear, Delaware, USA Oct 9, 2008 Bottle from dakine, thanks! Dark orange in color, good two finger sized head. The head lingered and was frosty. Solid aroma of fresh pine/citrus hops. Smooth creamy texture that practically slid down my throat. Very well balanced, the hops were not overpowering at all. No trace of the ten percent alcohol eithier. I am impressed, mainly in the texture and how easy this was to drink. I have passed this in my store plenty of time and now I regret not picking it up earlier. Thanks dakine for sending this one back around my way. taalhiker (111), Dayton, Ohio, USA Sep 30, 2008 From bottle. Part of April Dayton Beertasting event.
Pours a hazy orange with long lasting orange head.
The aroma is a mix of citrusy hops and malt.
The alcohol comes through a little - combined with yeast, piney hops and spice.
Long finish. mephisto (1125), Taiwan Sep 27, 2008 a pleasantly drinkable brew consider its strength and hopping. highly hopped as expected, the aroma is grapefruit and the flavor is intensely malty and hoppy. alexsdad06 (664), Ohio, USA Sep 27, 2008 12 oz. bottle from daknole. Pours a slightly hazy orange amber color with a medium sized light orange head. The aroma is bready, sweet malt, citrus, and floral. The flavor has a heavy dose of sweet malt, citrus, light pine, some of the orange rind thrown in for good measure, and alcohol. There is a slight lingering bitterness in the finish. Full bodied, thick, smooth, and good. This is another solid offering from this brewery. patrick767 (1449), fort wayne, Indiana, USA Sep 25, 2008 bottle - Pours copper and lightly cloudy with a thin, lingering head. Naturally is smells heavily of hops. There are floral and citrus notes. It’s quickly apparent by the taste that this one is very big on the malt too. It’s not as bitter as I expected. Citrus hops are partially buried by the heavy malt and the result tastes pretty good, but I think misses the complexity of hops flavors that some better examples of this style capture.
