COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Stoudt's Double IPA is a strong, full-bodied ale with an intense hop character and deep golden color. This unusual brew is characteristic of the newly recognized style of extremely hoppy and malty ales of American origin. The Double IPA is our strongest beer with an alcohol of over 10% abv and bitterness of more than 75 IBU's. Multiple kettle hop additions and generous dry hopping contribute to the powerful yet smooth and fragrant hop character of this beer. 10% abv.

Certainly the 2nd worst ’double IPA’ I’ve had (after the one Trader Joes carries). Dense, tight un-charming bitterness coupled with creepy fruity sweetness. No redeeming characteristics. Yuck.

Bottle at home while visiting Jacksonville. Pours amber with a white head. Sticky, sweet veggie, funky fruit aroma. Medium to full body, medium carbonation. Sweet with irn bru, orange squash, pine, lemon, carmel, candy... Some booze heat... tasty enough but and nicely balanced but too sickly sweet for me on the whole... OK.

Very complex IPA, so much so that it doesn?t really taste like one. Don?t get me wrong there is hop bitterness, mango and other tropical fruit notes. A candied sugar sweetness that melds well with hop and malt profile. Very enjoyable.

An interesting aroma of fruit, malt and a hint of hops. Great looking beer with a medium white well laced head, cloudy caramel color. Sweet malt and fruit taste with a medium body and a dry malt finish.

Poured from a bottle. Murky golden color, full frothy white head. Fruity malt and hops aroma. Medium body with a sweet fruity hops flavor and a medium finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz. bottle from The Hop Yard, Raleigh, NC (9.43% ABV according to the label). Dark orange pour with a frothy off-white head. Aroma of lemon, tangerine, and wet grass. Taste is good with tropical fruits (mango, pineapple, and oranges) upfront and a slightly sweet malt profile to balance. Lacks any real hop bitterness that I would normally find in an IPA/DIPA as the hop profile is just fruity. Much better than I remember from when I first had this years ago but still this would not be my go-to DIPA.

bottle @ Jungle Jim’s / Eastgate OH --- Cloudy dark amber, frothy off-white 1" head, streamers of lace. Taste is strong sweet malt in a brew that has the audacity to smash it with equally strong citrus hops. The hops aren’t up to the assignment, as the malt re-takes the brew in a long, slow, finish. A really big brew that isn’t as good as it pretends to be. A solid brew, but not a top dog.

12oz bottle. Over a year old. Was told it was better as a year old barleywine than a fresh barleywine. And they’re right. Bitter English barleywine. Caramel malts. Slight booze. Not bad.

12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured clear, amber, huge off white head, nice lacing all over the glass. Hoppy aroma, some malts, fruits and some booze. Taste starts bready and malty, hoppy and fruity towards the end; a bit boozy too. Very enjoyable and quite drinkable.

Deep cloudy orange color, head isn’t there but the lace is all over the glass. Aroma is hop, wheat, dark fruit, yeast, alcohol. The fruits come flying out of the wine glass I’m drinking this out of. Excellent. Flavor is hop, roasted malt, stone fruits, lime, vegetables, oak, pine, spice. I feel the warmth from the ABV after only three sips. Delightful.
