3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a translucent red-brown. Biscuit malt aroma with a hint of chocolate. Nice grainy flavors up front, dark red fruit, slightly sweet finish. Best part is the prickly carbonation and wet mouthfeel.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from watson1977...thanks Kerry! - Pours cola dark with a thin tan ring of head. Nose is roasty and a little nutty, with a touch of sweetness. Overall itís dry, with that distinctive oatmeal smell. Taste is real dry and roasty, with medium roast, oatmeal, and a touch of char. Itís real smooth, with a touch of milkiness on the finish. Medium bodied and smooth. Sweet baby Jesus itís nice to have a dry, roasty imperial stout that doesnít instantly give me diabetes.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pours opaque black with a small tan head that dissipates pretty quickly with nice lacing. Aroma is strong roast, chocolate, ashtray. Flavor is the same, plus coffee. Light sweet, medium bitter with the bitterness lingering to the far finish. Medium body, nice silky oat influence mouthfeel. This is an interesting take on the style for sure.

Big roasty coffee nose and flavor. Nice hoppiness that carries through. This is a great stout. Good brew to finish the night with.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Starts off good, but strange in that itís better off at the outset than later on. Aroma of roast malt, a little booze. Slightly syrupy consistency. Some oat as well. Slightly bitter finish with some sweetness. Pours dark brown with no head or lacing. Decent. Bottle from Premier Gourmet.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Aroma = smokey toasted oat, roasted coffee and cocoa. Near total black. Strong coffee flavor, obvious alcohol burn. Hints of vanilla and such. Thick sludgy body. A tough beer to drink multiples of. Not really the best stout though. Could be more balanced.

4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Big chocolate aroma. Thick syrupy mouthfeel that strarts with a great smokiness and moves perfectly to espresso and alcohol. Beer is served quite cold, will assess further as it warms. So far as good if not better than st. ambroise, which is my pinnacle of oatmeal stouts and stouts in general....So as it warmed it actually thinned out as far as mouthfeel. Hops and bitterness more present surprisingly. Still an absolute top notch beer, but dropped a peg from a perfect 5 for me.

Anything made by Stoudts is great and this is no exception. Fat Dog I think is their signature beer and it is great. I highly recommend this beer to anybody.

Poured from 12 oz. bottle.
Opaque, brown-black with a 2-finger tan head and very good lacing.
Aroma of roasted malt, roasted coffee, milk chocolate, toffee, oatmeal, prunes and caramel.
Taste of dark roasted coffee, dark roasted malt, sweet milk chocolate, caramel and charcoal. Lots of bitter roasted or burnt flavors with enough sweetness coming through to keep it interesting.
Full/medium body and medium/high carbonation.

Bottle received in trade from cpetrone84, thanks for the opportunity Chris!
Bottled in 2009 enjoyed in 2013
Pours a solid color of darkness with a smallish tan head that quickly dissipates to wisps of foam on the top. Smells of caramel, brown sugar, milk chocolate, light cereal grains, a hint of earthy hops and a touch of ethanol. The flavor is sweet and malt with a bit of sugary caramel malt with some roasty milk chocolate. Earthy hop with a hint of wet cardboard round out the flavor. Medium to thick body with a light level of carbonation and a sweet oily mouthfeel. Nice Stout really heavy on the sweet caramel and chocolate and showing slight hints of oxidation. glad I got to try it, but wouldnít mind a fresh sample too.
