COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This unique ale merges the smooth and complex richness of an Oatmeal Stout with the assertive hoppiness of Imperial Stout. Fat Dog has an inviting silky-black color, a prominent roasted malt character, and a chocolatey, coffee-like finish.

Bottle shared at a tasting at our place. Pours really black with tan head. Roast, some coffee and cotton candy aroma. Bitter, roasty, rich and a little dry taste. Medium to full body, roasty finish.

Hmm, thin & a weak aroma for an imperial. I’d like this to be much chewier. No head on the pour w/ a subtle aroma. This is quite disappointing!

Transfer from BA review on 11-7-12- Poured from bottle into snifter Appearance – Pours a deep brown nearly black color with a two finger tan head. The large bubbles in the head pop slowly over time to give a nice level of lacing. Smell – The aroma is of some roasted malt and oatmeal. Mixed with this is a light hoppy and alcohol flavor. Taste – The taste begins with a sweeter and roasted flavor. Mixed with this is a caramel sweetness. Flavors of oat and some lighter cocoa soon come to the tongue as well as an increase in the roasted and a sweet caramel taste. In the end some toffee and a light herbal hop flavor come to the tongue. The flavor is rather interesting - slightly roasty and sweet yet hoppy and a little astringent. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thicker and creamier side with a carbonation level that is rather average. The thickness of the body is quite nice for the oat and dark flavors, allowing all the strong dark flavors and oat to linger on the tongue. Overall – It was an alright stout. The appearance was nice and the feel very much so. The taste starts out very appealing and for the most part is nice. The smell however and the finish to the taste leave something to be desired. Not one I would likely frequent, but it is a tough one to call. Overall, I would recommend to give it a go and see what you think of it yourself.

Bottle at oatmeal stouts tasting at Beer&Beyond shop. Dark brown, nearly black with a medium beige head. Roasted aroma with some coffee and earthy notes. Sweet with dark chocolate, coffee, dried fruits, medium bitterness, quite alcoholic. Medium-full bodied, creamy and smooth mouthfeel. Decent IS.

Notes of cocoa in the aroma with malt sweetness. Tastes not as sweet as bitter roasty malts take over the cocoa. Really awesome stuff.

Firkin at Real Ale. Pours black with thin tan head. Aroma or chocolate, roast, dark fruit, brown sugar. Medium to full body, oily mouthfeel. Milk chocolate taste, roast, nut. Haven’t had this one in quite some time and it was much better than I remembered it to be.

Pours a caramel colored head with decent lacing. Roasted coffee beans and chocolate on the nose. Flavors of noticeable chocolate, dark fruit, caramel. One of Stoudts best offerings.
