COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Imperial Oatmeal Stout

This unique ale merges the smooth and complex richness of an Oatmeal Stout with the assertive hoppiness of Imperial Stout. Fat Dog has an inviting silky-black color, a prominent roasted malt character, and a chocolatey, coffee-like finish.

Black with a decent off-while to tan head. Aroma roasty and chocolaty, dark fruit, ash, coffee, bitter chocolate again. Taste full and roasty, butter chocolate, not very sweet, quite smooth. Roast and espresso finish, with warming alcohol in stomach. Nice.

2009 batch from Cory in OH. outside of the aroma, this was a super nice beer. the aroma was flat and boring, but the beer was SUPER smooth. the flavor of roasted oats and coffee would make this a good breakfast beer, with a nice semi-sweet finish. "

Extra from trade. Deep black with foamy head and light lacing, some brown translucent edges. Nose of dark malts, some coffee and chocolate. Medium to full body, hefty for an oatmeal stout. Really rich dark chocolate finish with light sweetness. Really well done.

Hmm, thin & a weak aroma for an imperial. I’d like this to be much chewier. No head on the pour w/ a subtle aroma. This is quite disappointing!

Transfer from BA review on 11-7-12- Poured from bottle into snifter Appearance – Pours a deep brown nearly black color with a two finger tan head. The large bubbles in the head pop slowly over time to give a nice level of lacing. Smell – The aroma is of some roasted malt and oatmeal. Mixed with this is a light hoppy and alcohol flavor. Taste – The taste begins with a sweeter and roasted flavor. Mixed with this is a caramel sweetness. Flavors of oat and some lighter cocoa soon come to the tongue as well as an increase in the roasted and a sweet caramel taste. In the end some toffee and a light herbal hop flavor come to the tongue. The flavor is rather interesting - slightly roasty and sweet yet hoppy and a little astringent. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thicker and creamier side with a carbonation level that is rather average. The thickness of the body is quite nice for the oat and dark flavors, allowing all the strong dark flavors and oat to linger on the tongue. Overall – It was an alright stout. The appearance was nice and the feel very much so. The taste starts out very appealing and for the most part is nice. The smell however and the finish to the taste leave something to be desired. Not one I would likely frequent, but it is a tough one to call. Overall, I would recommend to give it a go and see what you think of it yourself.

Bottle pours opaque dark brown/black. Nose lots of roast, bakers dark chocolate and hint of oatmeal. Taste sweet malt and chocolate up front. Then roast and light bitter mid palate. More roast and chocolate flavors than coffee. Light bitter finish. Average mouth feel.
