3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 KajII (705) - Macon, North Carolina, USA - DEC 14, 2011Bottle. The pour was a non transparent very dark brown almost black with an average sized (1-2 finger) thick creamy head and had decent retention which diminished down to a spotty residue. This allowed for some excellent sheets of lacing that coated the glass rather nicely.
The aroma was of a burnt chocolate malt and the moderate odor of a leathery yeast with notes of roasted coffee, dark chocolate and molasses and a decent scent of alcohol towards the end.
The taste was very malty and bold with a nice note of chocolate and a hint of molasses in the beginning and finished with a nice bitter coffee flavor that had a mild alcohol tinge at the end. The flavor lingered for a real long time which allowed the bold alcohol coffee flavor to settle nicely on the taste buds.
Mouthfeel was quite full in body with the texture being nice and creamy, and yet a little dry with the carbonation being a tad on the mild side.
Overall an exceptional Imperial Stout that had an explosion of flavor and a nice dose of alcohol that worked very well together.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 MadRobin (998) - Silver Spring, USA - MAY 15, 2013
Poured from 12 oz. bottle.
Opaque, brown-black with a 2-finger tan head and very good lacing.
Aroma of roasted malt, roasted coffee, milk chocolate, toffee, oatmeal, prunes and caramel.
Taste of dark roasted coffee, dark roasted malt, sweet milk chocolate, caramel and charcoal. Lots of bitter roasted or burnt flavors with enough sweetness coming through to keep it interesting.
Full/medium body and medium/high carbonation.

Bottle received in trade from cpetrone84, thanks for the opportunity Chris!
Bottled in 2009 enjoyed in 2013
Pours a solid color of darkness with a smallish tan head that quickly dissipates to wisps of foam on the top. Smells of caramel, brown sugar, milk chocolate, light cereal grains, a hint of earthy hops and a touch of ethanol. The flavor is sweet and malt with a bit of sugary caramel malt with some roasty milk chocolate. Earthy hop with a hint of wet cardboard round out the flavor. Medium to thick body with a light level of carbonation and a sweet oily mouthfeel. Nice Stout really heavy on the sweet caramel and chocolate and showing slight hints of oxidation. glad I got to try it, but wouldn’t mind a fresh sample too.

3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 ryanscourt (278) - Pennsylvania, USA - APR 6, 2013
Nice sweet chocolate smell. Not much head, pretty listless appearance. Nice solid stout. Wouldn’t of thought this was an imperial though. Pretty simple with not a huge body. That being said it is very good, just fairly simple. Alcohol is barely noticeable.

Pours a dark brown/blackish where some light comes through with a big frothy head. Aromas of roasted malt, slight smoke, caramel, light coffee, and some fruity hops poking through slightly. Flavors of caramel, light roasted malts, light coffee, light chocolate, and just a ting of alcohol in the nose. Light to medium sweet, slightly creamy feel, medium to light bitter. My abv says 8.02 on bottle. Light on many of the flavors for an IMP Stout. Hops come through a little more than I would prefer less the malts come on just as strong with a great balance.

Thanks to Exiled for sharing this bottle. Dark brown pour with a tan head. The aroma is full of chocolate, oats and roasted malt. The flavor is similar. I get some chocolate and some bitter roasted malt, as well as some dark fruit and oats. Medium, creamy mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Stoudts Fat Dog imperial oatmeal stout has a very thick, creamy, cream-colored head and a quite dark, brown appearance, with a few little bubble streams visible at the bottom of the glass. Some lacing is evident. The aroma is of sweet, heavily roasted barley malt, oatmeal, and possibly even cocoa powder. Taste is of all that, plus deep bitterness. Mouthfeel is verging on heavy, and Stoudts Fat Dog finishes mostly dry, rich, cloying, and sip-able. Overall, this is a most excellent beer. RJT

pours black with a minimal brown head. This beer tastes of dark fruits, dark malts, roasted coffee with a stronger alcohol taste and abit bitter.
