3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. The pour was a non transparent very dark brown almost black with an average sized (1-2 finger) thick creamy head and had decent retention which diminished down to a spotty residue. This allowed for some excellent sheets of lacing that coated the glass rather nicely.
The aroma was of a burnt chocolate malt and the moderate odor of a leathery yeast with notes of roasted coffee, dark chocolate and molasses and a decent scent of alcohol towards the end.
The taste was very malty and bold with a nice note of chocolate and a hint of molasses in the beginning and finished with a nice bitter coffee flavor that had a mild alcohol tinge at the end. The flavor lingered for a real long time which allowed the bold alcohol coffee flavor to settle nicely on the taste buds.
Mouthfeel was quite full in body with the texture being nice and creamy, and yet a little dry with the carbonation being a tad on the mild side.
Overall an exceptional Imperial Stout that had an explosion of flavor and a nice dose of alcohol that worked very well together.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20

Bottled 14AUG12 (I think, month was a bit smudged)
Dark brown with a nice quilt of fine light cocoa foam. Smells of graham, toast, bits of chocolate, some toasted malts and a good dose of coffee beans. Taste is real nice, smooth, oaty, slightly sharp with coffee, sweet cocoa powder, and fudgy dark chocolate. Full bodied with light, fluffy carb and a watery but dry finish. Nice beer.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Joe Canals West Deptford.
Appearance: Opaque chestnut body with a short tan head, settling into a foamy ring.
Aroma: Milk chocolate with a light roasted character, semi-sweet.
Taste: Deep chocolate sweetness, slightly syrupy, with a nice roasted character. Very tasty.
Palate: Creamy bodied, chewy, moderate carbonation.
Overall: This is a great oatmeal stout that I have passed up a million times. There’s great balance between the roasted and chocolate malts. Shame Stoudts has awful labels, it’s very easy to just walk past these.

Like many porters, the aroma is the best part of the experience. Sweet and chocolate smell. A bit more bitter than I expected.
