Why oh why do I keep trying lagers? Because I am a beer lover and want to keep an open mind. This beer embodies all that I hate about lagers. The gold no head color. The wheat-y grain-y aroma and taste. The lack of anything after swallowed. Even a great brewer like Stoudt’s can’t bring life to this blah beer

Bottle. Sweet malty nose, slightly floral and citric. Clear golden pour with a creamy beige head. Lots of helles malt with very light grain and slight bitterness. Dash of honey. Medium, chewy body with a very malty, only slightly bitter floral aftertaste. Clean and refreshing, certainly gets the job done.

Pours a beautiful clear golden color, with a very fluffy white, long-lasting head that leaves a wonderful lace as it goes down the glass. A near-perfect balance of sweet malt and hops - neither dominates. Finishes crisp and clean. A great example of the Munich Helles type. The first one is great, but the second really impresses, because I made sure it was served in a non-frosted mug. The first was way too cold.

Stoudts Gold Lager
12 oz bottle
Medium pour in a pilsner glass.
Best before 11/06, imbibed 12/06.
Poured a clear amber gold with an average white fizzy mostly diminishing white head.
Smelt of biscuit, lemon, corn, green veggies, grass.
Taste was upfront strong corn, green veggies, grass, with light sweet biscuit followed by a moderately sweet yeast bitterness and a light sweet and sour lemon cookie on an average length finish. Palate was light to medium bodied, fizzy, watery and moderately astringent.
Overall, the taste was strong and interesting, but it all seems offset and jarring. Sourness bitterness and sweetness, like the 3 Stooges, try too hard to cram into the door frame that is the palate. Woo woo woo woop!

An orange beer with a lazing white head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of grain and light notes of citrus. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of grain, and German hops, leading to a crisp slightly bitter end. The mouthfeel is somewhat chewy.

Gold Lager poured flat as a lake on a calm afternoon. Not a ripple or cap of foam....okay there was a quickly dissapating head. Golden color to match its name. Malts were evident and had a Euro-German dough flavor aroma. Underperforming once it was poured in a glass. Next time I’ll keep it in the bottle.

Stoudt’s Gold Lager pours a clear, pale golden color. There doesn’t seem to be much visible carbonation, but there is a huge fluffy white head and a decent amount of lacing happening! The aroma is light malt and a hint of yeast and those telling noble hops. The flavor is doughy light malt and a hint of spiciness. The finish is pretty short, but it does have a little punch of nice hop bitterness at the very end. This beer is pretty light bodied, crisp, and smooth. I appreciate and enjoy a good Pils, Helles, or other lager beer (especially Austrian, German, and Czech ones), but this one just doesn’t do it for me. I was hoping for something a bit more as this one is only marginally better than most macro lagers...
12 oz bottle (Best Before 11/20/06), $1.50+tax from Jungle Jim’s.

Blonde with appealing frothy head and an easy wafting malt aroma. Spicy hoppiness in flavor with a malt underpinning. A solid straight lager with a small bittering finish.
