Stoudt’s description of its Kolsh is quite accurate. The aroma and appearance are on the weak side - but in line with what to expect with that type of light ale. What’s lacking in the taste and palate, overall, is a bit more character. It’s a good one for the style that’s on the subtle (timid?) side, but not a great one.

Stoudt Karnival kolsch is a German style ale that has straw yellow color. True to German brewed kolsches, Stoudts it is dry and crisp with just a hint of fruitiness. Where it falls short of an excellent kolsch is the slightly sour fruity finish.

3.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured golden, cloudy and with a nice foamy white head and tons of lacing on the glass. Aroma is not great, grass, wheat and some funk... However taste is pretty good, citrus notes, some malts and some hops, very refreshing, very crisp. Very enjoyable.

3.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20

Bottle. Smells like a lager and tastes like almost nothing. Which is great on a hot day when you’ve just been fired. So there’s that.

2.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Found this one on clearance for $2 for a 6 pack, so I couldn’t say no. I’ve never had a kölsch before and I’ve never heard of the brewery, but for that price, what the hay? Pours a gold/yellow color with a white head. Smells like....grass, musty fruit or something. Not appealing to me at all. Luckily it tastes much better than it smells. Has a very crisp, refreshing taste. A bit of sweet, a bit of malt and a bit of bitterness in the aftertaste. Surprisingly good. Thinner than I like in a beer but not bad. Not much carbonation to be found. Very easily drinkable. I am interested to see if they have a higher ABV version of this. It could be dangerous. It didn’t blow my world, but I’d say I got my money’s worth.

Draft at Blackback. Pours pale yellow, brilliant with sticky white head. Nose is grainy with moderate fruity notes. Subtle hopping and clean. Faint sulfur. On tasting, low fruity and malt notes, imminently drinkable and clean. Really nice Kolsch.

Clear golden color with bright white foam. Good looking beer. Aroma is light malt and hops. Very mild. Say malt taste up front with some hops in the middle and a slightly bitter finish. Decent easy drinking Kolsch.
